Israel loves Paula, but they are separated in their struggle
to survive World War II
Israel and Paula are teens living in Biala Podlaska, Poland,
on the eve of World War II. One day Israel tells Paula that he will marry her
in a few years. She objects, and their friendship ends. But when the Germans
enter the city, they flee together to Russia and volunteer in Soviet labor
camps - to survive. They are sent to different places. Paula works as a nurse,
where she excels and is sent to Moscow to study medicine. There she marries
Mila and has a son, but Mila dies at war soon after.
At war’s end, in love from afar, will they ever succeed
in reuniting?
Meanwhile, Israel returns to his hometown as a Polish
soldier and finds a letter from Paula. Their love is rekindled from afar, and
he proposes marriage by mail. But will Israel ever be able to manipulate the
Russian authorities to obtain a visa to penetrate the Iron Curtain and then
reunite with Paula in Moscow? Will their love ever again be free to flourish?
My Review:
Love Lost in the War is about two people, Paula and Israel,
who grew up together in Biala Podlaska, Poland and fell in love. Israel wants
to marry Paula in a few years. Israel is probably thinking of their future
together and how he is going to take care of her and wants to get all of that
established first.
But before they can get married the Germans enter the city, Israel
ask Paula to leave with him and go to Russia where they find jobs in labor
camps. Israel is sent to one camp while Paula is sent to another. After their separation
they don’t see each other or have any idea where the other is or have been
sent.
Paula is trained to be a nurse and then later sent on to
University to be a doctor. With no way to find out where Israel is or how to
find him Paula goes on with her life. She meets a nice you man, Mila whom she
marries and has a child with. It is not long before Mila is sent off to fight
in the war where he dies and leaves Paula to raise their baby alone.
Many years later after joining the Polish army Israel
decides to go visit his home town and finds letters from Paula telling of her
life with her new family and baby and the death of her husband. After reading
the letters Israel contacts Paula and they start to correspond with each other
through letters and rekindle their love. Israel wants nothing more than to be
with the love if his life and makes plans to visit Paula.
But before he can go to her he has to first get a visa from
the Russian government. And if he does manage to convince them to give him a
visa to enter the Iron Curtain will he then be able to get permission to bring
Paula and her child back with him? Will Israel be able to obtain the documents
he needs to reunite with Paula or is their life together doomed?
Love Lost in the War is the story of two people who fell in
love on the eve of the war when the Germans invaded Poland. Love Lost in the
War is the true account of two people, soulmates, who fell in love and were separated
for many years but whose love was so strong that fate/destiny or whatever you prefer
to call it couldn’t keep them apart.
Love Lost in the War is an amazing and brilliantly written
story of times lost and found of a love that was greater than any war. Love
Lost in the War shows the struggles of two people and how far they will go for
love.
I would recommend Love Lost in the War to all fans of
romance and history.
