Book Tour + Review + #Giveaway: The Mortician's Daughter by C.C. Hunter @CCHunterBooks @SDSXXTours

The Mortician's Daughter:
One Foot in the Grave
by C.C. Hunter
Genre: Paranormal Romance

The first exciting novel in a brand-new series from New York Times bestselling author C. C. Hunter!

Her dad’s job is with the dead . . . and he’s bringing his work home with him.

Once again, seventeen-year-old Riley Smith is the new kid in school and her dad’s career has her back to being dubbed a freak. Truth is, she’s a much bigger freak than her classmates think. The only company she keeps these days is the dead who follow Dad home from work. She can see them. She can speak to them. And Fate seems to think she can help them solve their last problems so that they can move on to the other side. Which is odd, because with the loss of her mother and her father’s alcoholism, she’s got enough problems of her own.

But nothing could prepare her for the next tormented young spirit who darkens Riley’s door. The young woman’s death wasn’t the accident everyone believes. Soon Riley finds herself face-to-face with the killer and her only protection comes in the form of another spirit, Hayden, a boy her age with a heart-melting smile and understanding eyes that make her feel safe. If she can escape becoming the killer’s next victim, Riley knows she’ll have to help Hayden move on too, but what if she can’t let him go?

Riley Smith can see, hear and talk to the dead. She tries to avoid them as much as possible but with her father being Mortician and they follow him home that is kind of hard to do especially when all they want is for someone to help them cross over to the other side. The dead come to Riley asking all kinds of favors so they can leave this world behind and rest in peace.

Riley is a girl who likes to keep to herself and has a hard time making friends with the job her father has. Her father has once again lost his job he ups and moves them to a new town. Riley as usual is having a hard time with the kids at her new school but of course this is nothing new as it happens everywhere she lives once they find out what her father does for living. Riley is then known as a freak. So you can imagine why she never lets anyone in on her secret about communicating with the dead.

At her new home Riley’s meets a few new ghosts who ask her for help. Riley first meets Bessie who asks her to help deliver a message to her family which leads Riley to meeting her new best friend Bessie granddaughter Kelsey.

Next on the list is Abby who need her help to reveal the truth behind her death. This one leads Riley onto a trial of danger that could cost her life. Riley is reluctant to help Abby as what she wants her to do is farther away than her father will allow her to drive.

Riley meets another ghost Hayen who seems to be a little different than most of the ghosts that she has met but she it is small that she doesn’t dwell on it; it is just something stuck in the back of her mind as not being quite right. Riley is having feelings for Hayden but she doesn’t want to take it too far as she knows that the day he moves on will be very painful if she continues to let her feelings escalate.

Not only is Riley having ghost problems but she is having some problems at home with her dad. Riley thinks he is hiding something from her that could be very harmful to him and her as well. Riley is determined to find out what is going on with her dad.

I have loved going on this journey with Riley and being introduced to her world and finding out what it is to love a ghost. Riley is a very sweet girl who loves helping people and making them happy. She hates any kind of conflict or drama which I love about her as I am the same way. I love how Riley didn’t go around beating her chest always getting into fights but that didn’t mean they didn’t find her. It seems as if she is a magnet for some other girl’s fist or attitude accusing her of doing things that she would never dream of doing.

One Foot in the Grave is a great little ghost story with a touch of sweet romance with the sweetest of characters. I can’t wait to dive into the next book Two Feet Under to see where Riley and her ghost take us next and what kind of mayhem they will lead her into.

I would recommend One Foot in the Grave to anyone loves a love story with a few ghost added in.

The Mortician's Daughter:
Two Feet Under

Riley has accepted that her special gift is to help dead people with their unfinished business.  But she never thought she’d be tasked with helping the spirit of a convicted criminal who died in prison.  He may lead her on the scariest mission yet, but helping him could mean saving the life of a child.  The convict’s daughter needs a liver transplant and the one person who could still be a match is his brother…who also happens to be a gang leader.

Hayden’s not happy that Riley’s discovered who he is and is seeing him sick and unconscious in his hospital bed.  This feels like as good a time as ever to cross over and put all of them out of their misery….but Riley is in danger.  She’s visiting some of the most dangerous spots and confronting some of the creepiest low-lifes in town.  For her, he’ll need to regain his strength and fight to keep her safe.

But dealing with other people’s problems still can’t keep Riley from her own.  Her dad’s drinking has gotten worse.  And she’ll soon learn it’s because he’s been keeping a huge, horrible secret that will change everything she believes about her family and her mother’s death.

Riley and Hayden are back and she is stilling helping ghost to cross over to the other side and find a place of rest.

Riley meets a new ghost who died in prison before he can move on and find peace he needs to help his little girl who is dying. The only way he can help her is by enlisting Riley’s help. He needs Riley to find his brother and tell him about his daughter and see if he will help her to live.

The brother of the prisoner Riley is searching for just happens to be a gang leader. Her journey of finding this man could lead her down roads that she wants no part of and could cost her more than she is willing to pay. But to help save this little girl’s life Riley is willing to risk it all.

Riley finds out the truth about Hayden and why he is different from the other ghost. Hayden is not visiting her as much and flickers in and out on occasion. The truth to the reason for Hayden disappearing on her could turn her life upside down.

Can Riley find this ghost’s brother? If she does can she talk him into helping a little girl he has never met? Can Riley save Hayden? Can she help him cross over to find peace or can she bring him bac from the brink of death?

Two Feet Under is just as amazing as its predecessor One Foot in the Grave. It will take you through the worlds of ghost and humans alike. Come and see Riley as she merges the lives of ghost sand humans as she tries to help them all find their own place of rest.

I highly recommend Two Feet Under to all fans of ghost stories with a little love thrown in. But I would like to suggest that you start with the first book in the The Mortician’s Daughter, One Foot in the Grave to get the whole story.
