Kate Brandeis has it all: a famous reporter at the age of
twenty-four, she's the face of the Republic of the Americas. She has a loving
fiancee and all the success she could wish for. But when she learns of the
death of a long-forgotten friend, her investigations unravel her perfect
memories, forcing her to face the fact that she's been living a lie.
Jackson MacNamera, trained from a young age in the art of
mind control, returns to the Republic for his mother's funeral. Within a few
hours of his arrival, authorities collect Jackson and take him by force to a
room ironically called The Liberty Box, where he must choose between
surrendering his thoughts to the new Republic, or fleeing for his freedom.
Kate, bereaved and confused, finds her way to a cave
community of refugees, where Jackson seems to offer her an escape from her
grief. The two forge an uneasy bond, and in the process Jackson learns that
Kate has some insight which may help the hunters in their attempt to free other
citizens from the tyranny of the Potentate. Against the expressed wishes of the
Council, the hunters plot a series of daring raids, attempting to prove that
not only is freedom possible, but that the citizens are not too far gone to
desire it. But with the odds so stacked against them, can the refugees succeed
in their rescue missions right under the Potentate's nose?
My Review:
After the collapse of the United States one man has a plan
to make it great again and decides to go to what is left of congress to present
his plan. This man’s plan is to make himself the leader of the country and he
is to be known as the Potentate instead of President. The United States is now
called the Republic.
A reporter Kate is sent some files on deceased people and
she is to write up a report for the evening news. But as she is looking through
the files she realizes that she knows one of the women in the files, Maggie.
She calls up her boyfriend who has connections with his job to see what he can
find out.
Later Kate learns that her boyfriend had an accident
resulting in his death. With the death of her boyfriend and the investigation
of her friend Kate finds herself on the run from the government.
Jackson has been living in Ireland with his Uncle when he
learns of his mother’s death. Jackson assumes that his mother’s death is
probably related to his stepfather or that had something to with her death. Jackson’s
Uncle sends him back to the United States or what is now known as the Republic
to attend his mother’s funeral but upon his arrival he notices that things in
the Republic are not as great has his mother made them sound. Jackson soon
learns that what the people are seeing and hearing is not quite the truth.
Jackson and Kate find a group of people living in caves
outside of the Republic. After everyone spends sometime together and discusses
what has happened to each of them they start to figure it out. They now know
that they have been lied to.
Jackson, Kate and all their new friends are now determined
to find the truth and set everyone free from all the lies. It will be a long
and hard road to finding the truth and setting people free. They will just have
to take it one day at a time I guess.
Can they band together in order to find the truth and set
everyone free or will they forever be mindless robots slaves of their own
making or is it one man’s making?
The Potentate, one man has found a way to make the people to
see and believe whatever he tells them to be the truth which is not unlike our
society today. It may not be done the in the exact same way but the results are
the same. In today’s society the news, media and tv among other things are used
to keep everyone’s mind occupied so that they will not have time to think long
enough to learn what is going right under their noises.
The Liberty Box is a very intense read that will put your
mind into overdrive and at the same time keep you so engrossed that you will
lose focus as to what is going on around you. It will pull you into its depth
from the first page and will keep you glued to your seat rooting for Kate,
Jackson and all their new friends and wanting them to wake up and see what is
happening around their world. It is filled with suspense and mystery that just
keeps you guessing. I can’t wait to see what our friends may have in store for
us in the next or where they will take us in The Eden Conspiracy, Conspiracy?
Ohh just that title alone pulls me in as I am a conspiracy theorist.
If you like dystopian filled with mystery and suspense then
you are going to love The Liberty Box.
