Blurb:

The end of the world is coming. How or when, scientists can’t agree upon. For decades, Earth’s best line of defense has been a team of young soldiers known as the Apocalypse Five, forced into virtual reality simulations to train for Doom’s Day. But, this is no game. Death on the grid is brutally final, and calls up the next in a long line of cadets. Stationed aboard the AT-1-NS Starship, the A5 are celebrities thrust into the limelight by a calling they didn’t choose.

All it takes is one unscheduled mission, showing seventeen-year-old team leader Detroit a harsh and unfathomable reality, to shake the A5’s belief in all they thought they knew. After questioning people with the power to destroy them, the team is framed for a crime they didn’t commit and marked for death. Now, the hunt is on. Can the Apocalypse Five expose the truth the starship would kill to keep hidden? Or, will their bravery end in a public execution?

Apocalypse Five is a unique dystopian adventure that takes a look at a worst possible scenario for Earth’s future through a lens of some of today’s most powerful themes. It focuses on empowerment, inclusion, and the call for unheard voices to rise, with a diverse cast of characters readers won’t be able to resist cheering for.

My Review:

The Apocalypse Five or A5 as they are called live on a starship and spend their days training so they can save Earth. They train in virtual reality simulations to get them ready for the big day. When they are sent on their first mission they find out that they might not be playing a game after all that it might just all be for real.

When the team start to question if what they saw was real or not they find themselves in a little bit of trouble. They are framed for something they did not do. They make their escape and go to Earth and there the truth starts to unravel. The A5 are all determined to find the answers they need on Earth and to reveal the truth that has been withheld from them and make things right.

This is not the first book by Stacey Rourke that I have read and I am sure it won’t be the last. I love apocalyptic, dystopian and science fiction books so when I saw Apocalypse Five I knew I had to read it and so I jumped right in. It was everything I was expecting and more it did not disappoint in the least.

The world building is out of this world crazy amazing. Apocalypse Five has action from the first page right up until the last and it never leaves you hanging. The characters are all so real and each scene is written is such a way that you feel as if you are right there with them no matter if they are on Earth or on the starship. I can’t wait to see what the author has in store for us in the next book.

If you like spaceships and outer space type books set in an apocalyptic, dystopian world then you are going to love Apocalypse Five.
