In the sixth book in the Marie Jenner Mystery series, life is finally starting to look up for Marie. Her brand-new business—moving on ghosts for actual money—is taking off. Her relationship with James Lavall is rock solid. All she has to do is find the last two poltergeists from the ball diamond and move them on to the next plane of existence and, as far as she’s concerned, life will be perfect.

The problem is, life has a way of kicking Marie in the teeth. Patrick Whitecroft, professional psychic debunker, shows up at the Jimmy Lavall Detective agency. He’s out to prove that she’s a fake—live, on TV—and he doesn’t care who he hurts to do it. Even worse, he has over a hundred desperate spirits bound to him, and they want something completely different. They want to be saved.

As Marie tries to help the spirits and keep Patrick from dismantling her life, she finally finds the poltergeists. But they’re not interested in moving on. They want Patrick Whitecroft’s spirits for themselves. If Marie can’t figure out a way to move all the spirits on to the next plane of existence, the poltergeists will happily take them, so they can create an army bent on revenge.

Looks like Marie’s life is going to get interesting. Again.

Read an Excerpt

“How can I help you?” I asked the man who looked like he was absolutely drowning in ghosts. It was hard not to yell, because the ghosts clinging to him were loud. Some were crying, some were screaming, and the rest of them were talking. All at once.

“My name is George Zola,” the living man at the centre of all the craziness said. “And I hear you have the ability to contact the spirit world.”

“That’s not his name. He’s Patrick Whitecroft,” a voice called, somewhere from the back of the room.

“Who said that?” Karen asked, but none of the ghosts responded.

I wondered if they could even hear her. Maybe they couldn’t see other ghosts. I wasn’t sure what I could do with that, then realized that Patrick or George or whatever his name was, was staring at me expectantly. I tried to remember what he’d asked. Ah, right. Ability to contact spirits.

“I do,” I said. “Do you have a particular spirit you’d like me to contact?”

I guessed that the ghost he wanted to talk to was probably already in the room with him, and he just didn’t realize.

“I just have a couple of questions,” Patrick slash George said.

“Certainly,” I said.

“He’s going to test her,” one of the ghosts at the front of the throng said. “Bet she fails.”

“I’m not taking that bet. They all fail,” another ghost said. “Think he’ll make it quick this time? This place is small, and I’m claustrophobic.”

“Not a chance,” a third said. “He’ll take his time. He lives for this crap.”

Bernie, the easiest character to write is definitely Millie the dog! I have a little dog like her at home, and it's easy for me to imagine how she'd react to the situations Millie finds herself in.

I haven't read anything from this series yet, but this story sounds awesome. It looks like I have another book series to add to my TBR. Thank you for sharing your book and author details.
