Philanthropy Book 2
Science Fiction/Fantasy
Publisher: Chandra Press
Date Published: 11/14/2019
The exciting sequel to Fusion World.
A world on the brink. A team divided.
It’s been months since Vai and Edam disappeared through the portal created by the destruction of the Fusion World machine. Unfortunately the machine contained the last known Dark Orb, the critical component to interdimensional travel. Luckily, a prototype is found in the vault of its creator, Dr. Charles Vindia. Vint SawWood, Vindia’s protégé, is pressed into service and can reactivate the device. But it is decades old and may only work once. There is no way to know.
Undaunted, Sajaeler and Raven lead a mission to find and rescue their missing teammates. What they discover is a world in the midst of a civil war. A shapeshifter has rallied an army of disaffected citizens to his cause and will stop at nothing until he subjugates the planet. To make matters worse, Raven becomes gravely ill. Coming to this world of mythical foes and allies has triggered something within. She must face her past in order to survive.
With the war boiling over, the team at odds, and Raven on death’s door, can Vai, Edam, Sajaeler and a new band of friends save the world and each other?
Interview with Joseph Lewis Tamone
How many hours a day do you put into your writing?
I try to set time aside from work to do some writing. On days that I work, I probably won’t write
that much. If anything, I’ll just do
some minor formatting or editing. On
days that I schedule off, I’ll spend a normal workday writing, so about eight
hours, maybe a little bit more.
Do you read your book reviews?
Yes, I read every review. I’m interested in what people have to say,
critique, or praise.
Do you leave hidden messages in your books that only a few
people will find?
I have a few pop culture references in my books that
only certain people will understand. In
Fusion World, I have quite a few references to the Teenaged Mutant Ninja
Turtles, but the only person who has ever seemed to pick up on them is my
brother Tommy.
Some of the dialogue as well are actual conversations
that I’ve had with other people. I’ve
put a lot of my own personality into the dialogue, and that sometimes includes
quoting myself verbatim. I suppose the
people I’ve had those conversations with might understand those.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Shadow of the
Demon?
I have a lot of characters, so I’ll
try to make this brief.
Sajaelar Molaes is a sharpshooter
working for Philanthropy, on a mission to rescue his missing team members.
Siren/Raven is a Vyndral scout
working for Philanthropy, with one goal in mind; rescue Vai Kogan and bring him
home.
Vint SawWood is a scientist who
invented the key to make travel possible between Rafia and the new world.
James Emmerson Poland is the
Sheriff of the New World United (NWU.)
Turf Taldale of Rasterol is a
deputy with the NWU.
Bastion Sax of High Cliff is
another deputy of the NWU.
Jim Dobbs is a bandit helming the
Hell Gate, and the adopted son of James Poland.
He may be hiding a special ability.
Olizer Wilder is Dobbs’
second-in-command of the Hell Gate.
Shiva Wilder is Olizer’s sister,
and is a very ruthless and unforgiving outlaw, and a very dangerous
adversary.
Coby Churchlin is the Hell Gate’s
explosives expert.
Miranda Dobbs is the daughter of Jim
Dobbs but doesn’t share his passion for crime.
She may also be hiding a special ability.
Marden Aswalde is a prisoner and
former Lieutenant of the Vyndral Revolution.
He’s gravely ill and isn’t expected to live much longer.
Vai Kogan was lost at the end of
the last book. He’s now a deputy on this
new world, lending a hand to the NWU against the Hell Gate.
Edam Lavinski/Falcon was also lost
at the end of the last book, with the knowledge that he was once the leader of
the Vyndral Revolution, though he lost his memory. With his memories returning, he’s having a
bit of an identity crisis.
Rylie Mulloway is the captain of
the RSS Ellipse, and the father to a three year old girl, Reece. All he wants to do is provide a good life for
his daughter.
Marissia Tarria is a doctor working
for Philanthropy suffering from severe PTST due to her actions at the end of
the previous book.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have
planned for the future?
I’m currently writing the sequel
and third book of the Philanthropy series, titled Gray Skies & Glass
Lands. The story is split into two
parts. The first part is the fallout
from the first two books, with a serial killer hunting any remaining Vyndral
sympathizers left in Rafia, and the second part takes place decades before the
start of the first book, and follows Marden Aswalde on Vyndral, from the time
the bombs fell, marking the end of the Universal War, to the start of Fusion
World.
I have a few other titles I’m
working on, but they’re in early development.
Do you allow yourself a certain number of hours to write or do you write
as long as the words come?
I don’t try to time myself. I’ll typically write so long as the words
come out. I do set aside time for
writing though.
Do you have a certain number of words or pages you write per day?
I just try to get as much done as I
possibly can. If the quality of my
writing starts to slip or I begin to struggle, I’ll take a break or just stop
for the day. I’d rather write nothing
than write lesser quality work.
What inspires you to write?
It’s my passion. It’s been my hobby since I was a kid. I’ve always had a very active imagination,
and writing was the only outlet I’ve found to express that.
I stopped writing for a while, but
my wife convinced me to pick up the pen again.
She’s helped me formulate ideas when I had none left. She even came up with certain plot points and
characters for my books. A good handful
of my characters weren’t even my idea.
Siren/Raven, Rylie and Reece Mulloway, Vint SawWood, Coby Churchlin,
Olizer Wilder, Shiva Wilder, Turf Taldale, and Bastion Sax are her
characters. She penned them out, gave
them names, gave them personalities, and then gave them to me to bring to
life. So she’s also a huge inspiration
for me.
