Interview with Kaylene Winter
For those interested in exploring the subject or theme of your book, where should they start?
They should ask themselves: do I want to read about swoonworthy men and the strong, sassy women who love them – and bring them to their knees?
It’s really that simple. My heroes and heroines are strong, opinionated, flawed and vulnerable. To me, they are real people with real reactions – and each book in the series explores how they navigate the consequences of their actions to build a true and lasting love story.
How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
The story goes, I wrote my first romance novel when I was 15. I wanted to marry a long-haired Rockstar and so did my friends, so I wrote our story.
I didn’t marry a Rockstar, but during the 90’s/grunge years, I did work in the management company for a ton of Seattle Rockstars that you know and love. I also managed one of the biggest rock clubs in Seattle and managed and booked a lot of bands.
I found my manuscript years later and, although told from a young teen’s perspective (and my taste’s have evolved from leather cheetah pants), it was pretty good!
By now, I’d become an avid romance reader as a means to escape from my very high-pressure business. I had no idea “Rocker Romance” was a thing – and I devoured every book in the genre.
The thing about Rocker Romance is that it gives you the best of all worlds. The lucrative world of celebrity, the sexy world of rock stars, and the glamorous world of millionaire/billionaires – all of the best bits wrapped up in a love story.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
LIMITLESS is book 2 in my Less Than Zero Rockstar Romance Series. LIMITLESS is the flip side of the coin from ENDLESS and follows the romance between Jace Deveraux, LTZ’s drummer and Alex LeRoux, travel blogger extraordinaire. I wanted to tell a story about two sexy friends whose love grows into everlasting commitment over the span of their new adult lives.
My bigger goal is to build up the audience for my series and to create new fans for the LTZ world.
Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
I’m so grateful for all of the love that ENDLESS has received – the amount of 5-star reviews is so mindblowing to me. My early feedback from ARC readers on LIMITLESS is spectacular – so I just really am humbled by everyone who has taken a chance on a new author like me.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
I loved the playfulness of Alex & Jace’s relationship, and their underlying respect and friendship. They have crazy adventures all over the world. Their connection is mind-blowing – even for them. Neither of them know quite what to do with themselves or each other at first.
What I love about writing all of my books is how the characters just speak to me. It’s fun for me to get to know them too.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
Next up is FEARLESS, the story of LTZ’s bassist, Connor and Ronni Miller, the famous sit-com actress. It will be slightly different than the format both ENDLESS and LIMITLESS followed – mainly because their relationship starts much later than the other couples. I’m about halfway through writing it, hoping to release it in March on or around St. Patrick’s Day (spoiler alert: Irish brogue).
How long have you been writing?
After I wrote my book, I was very focused on my career in music management. I became a lawyer, and have been writing hundreds of pages a week since I got my degree – but mostly because I’m writing very strategic contracts in the media/entertainment space. I started ENDLESS two years ago, and it marked the beginning of my fiction writing third career.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in LIMITLESS)?
Jace Deveraux is a gorgeous blond Viking drummer, who played in bands throughout college for fun while he worked toward a marketing degree. With three sisters, he’s taken to task for his cavalier attitude with the women in his life. Friends with benefits is his jam. He uses his marketing skills to help his band, Less Than Zero (LTZ) gain a tremendous social media following.
Alex LeRoux is a recent high school graduate, and rather than going to college she wants to pursue her dream of travel blogging so she can see the world. An avid animal lover, she dedicates months out of each year to volunteer at rescues/shelters around the world with the dream of opening her own rescue one day.
Alex and Jace meet in Seattle when her best friend Zoey Pearson is spotted in the audience by LTZ’s singer, Tyson Rainier (Zoey and Ty’s story is ENDLESS – Book 1). Their lives are impacted by the drama surrounding Ty & Zoey, but throughout it all they remain friends and sometimes lovers until they are faced with a potentially life-changing situation they have to navigate. It explores the world of celebrity, life on the road, friendship to lovers, and has a HEA.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from LIMITLESS who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
Alex, of course. Mainly because her character is inspired by my BFF from childhood. Alex is playful, fun, takes no prisoners, fair and beautiful, of course. She’s a girl’s girl, her BFF Zoey and her have a delightfully supportive relationship. She also stands up for what she believes in.

When she was only 15, Kaylene Winter wrote her first rocker romance novel starring a fictionalized version of herself, her friends and their gorgeous rocker boyfriends. After living her own rockstar life as a band manager, music promoter and mover and shaker in Seattle during the early 1990’s, Kaylene became a digital media legal strategist helping bring movies, television and music online. Throughout her busy career, Kaylene lost herself in romance novels across all genres inspiring her to realize her life-long dream to be a published author.
