How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
Through my longtime involvement with an organization that helps young women with traumatic backgrounds turn their lives around, I’ve witnessed dozens of incredible transformations, including girls who’ve risen up from homelessness and prison to become lawyers, doctors, and successful entrepreneurs, and live happy, fulfilling lives. I wanted to spread the world about the type of healing and metamorphosis I’ve learned is possible.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
My primary goal is to empower women, which plays into my overarching goal of having more women in charge of the world—in business and in politics. This is just my first attempt to generate inspiration; I intend to follow up with more books and initiatives, including recruiting movers and shakers in various industries to expand my message’s reach.
Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Yes! Get to where YOU want to be. Don’t feel stuck, and don’t let anyone or anything stop you. I know many women out there are facing horrible circumstances like Zoey, my protagonist. I would love to inspire them to fight for their own futures. But even to those leading more “normal” lives: don’t settle. If you can have more joy, confidence, and fulfillment, believe in what’s possible and work for it.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Crafting Zoey’s journey was a journey for me as well. I wanted a powerful transformation that started from rock-bottom, akin to those I have witnessed—and experienced in my own life. I wanted to make sure her rise exemplified how much healing is truly attainable, even from the most painful atrocities.
I also dug deep to create a villain with the worst personality traits of people I’ve actually met. Some may think he’s over-the-top, without realizing how many seemingly normal individuals are indeed sociopaths. Not all of them turn into full-fledged criminals, but they do plenty of damage to those close to them.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
The Perfect Revenge has been planned as a series from the outset. The second installment is almost complete, with two more in the pipeline. Along with more romance, the suspense and action will be heightened. And as Zoey continues healing, she’ll reach ever-new levels of empowerment and achievement. Zoey’s saga is a wild ride, perfect for the reader who likes intrigue and twists.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been obsessed with creating this book for about a decade. I’m not a traditional writer, however, as my focus is on the mission. So I hired a team to help me bring my ideas to life. I don’t mind revealing I was helped, because only Zoey and the cause of women’s empowerment should be in the spotlight!
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Perfect Revenge: The Dragonfly Rises?
My heroine, Zoey, would under ordinary circumstances be the quintessential girl next door. But her life stops being ordinary, and happy, early on. She has to grow up fast and overcome the damage of a tragic childhood.
Max is Zoey’s uncle who begrudgingly takes her in. As the ultimate malignant narcissist, he is a master of psychological abuse. He has power, he has money, he has connections. Escaping his control is nearly impossible, let alone delivering a much-deserved revenge.
Strong supporting characters in include:
Leah, a goodhearted martial arts badass who helps Zoey heal.
Tilly, Zoey’s loving mother who is based upon my own mom, who also suffered hardship.
“Free,” Zoey’s gorgeous and free-spirited Yale roommate, who brings fun into Zoey’s life.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from The Perfect Revenge? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
It would definitely be Leah, and I’d have her show me the “behind-the-scenes” of New York City. She’s street-smart and has incredible back stories from her past. While her biggest secrets won’t be revealed until Book 2, I can tell you she was a professional fighter (“The Puerto Rican Punisher”) whose career was ruined when she killed a young thug while rescuing a mugging victim. She later opened a martial arts studio through which she helps women in trouble get counseling and schooling, and acquire confidence and strength.
About the Author
WilD is a storyteller and longtime philanthropist who’s dedicated generous amounts of time and money to organizations that aid women with troubled pasts. The drastic transformations he’s witnessed have proven to him what is possible when people are given the right support system. Today, he’s an ardent champion of female empowerment, driven to create a lasting legacy by furthering the cause even more.
However, WilD realized early on he was not the ideal "face" of the women's movement. And so, with the goal of keeping the attention on Zoey and her message, WilD has chosen to remain anonymous. But the impetus for his commitment to this project need not be a mystery.
Like Zoey, WilD overcame heartbreaking adversity; in fact, many story scenes are based directly on his and his mother’s distressing experiences. But after being told he would never amount to anything, he became the first in his family to attend college, went on to earn a graduate degree, and most importantly, found personal fulfillment.
Crafting Zoey’s story is WilD’s first step toward inspiring women to reach their highest goals, even when faced with the steepest odds. He hopes that exposing the plight of girls like Zoey will help more women find their own voices and will encourage others to join the mission.
