Interview with Stephanie Edwards
For those interested in exploring the subject or theme of your book, where should they start?
The book is romantic suspense that covers a variety of topics—ghosts, romance, mystery and family dynamics, all within the spooky environment of the Lowcountry. The best way would be to take a trip to Charleston, South Carolina, take a ghost tour, visit Isle of Palms and eat some comfort food with your loved ones, but if you’re social distancing this fall, there are a lot of great books and movies that take place in the Lowcountry. And if the food described in the novel makes you hungry, you can always look online for some delicious comfort food recipes.
How did you become involved with the subject or theme of your book?
My husband and I travel to Isle of Palms, South Carolina, as often as possible. Two years ago, we stayed at a charming cottage a block off the beach. The backyard was filled with old oak trees, dripping in Spanish moss, which created an eerie vibe. This setting inspired me to write a spooky story, one I started writing during our drive home.
What were your goals and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved them?
I intended to write a spooky but sweet novel. Readers have remarked how they love to hate Parker and his horrible haunting, but they absolutely love the relationships among Blake and Clint as well as their families.
Anything you would like to say to your readers and fans?
Thanks so much for buying my book and giving me the gift of your time. It means the world to me that someone would take an interest in my writing.
What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Getting to know other authors and readers in the writing community has been fantastic. It’s a very supportive group, and I’m proud to be part of it.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
I’m working on the sequel, Return to Palm Court, which will be told from the POV of Blake’s sister, Brittany, who returns to the family cottage to help run the bed and breakfast and care for her niece. When strange happenings involving the child start taking place, Brittany realizes that the ghosts from their past may not have been laid to rest after all.
How long have you been writing?
I’ve been writing professionally since I landed my first newspaper column at 13. Since then, I’ve worked as a writer in the fields of journalism, public relations and corporate communications. The Haunting on Palm Court is my first novel. I’d always wanted to write a book, but I didn’t have the inspiration I needed until that fateful trip to the beach.
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in The Haunting on Palm Court?
Blake is a young woman, fleeing her abusive, cheating fiancĂ©, Parker. He follows her to her grandmother’s beach cottage and attempts to murder her. In a twist of events, he ends up dying and comes back to haunt her. His haunting intensifies when Blake reconnects with her first love, Clint. Clint’s grandmother, Nancy, serves as a guide to the paranormal and helps them navigate the turbulent waters Parker creates.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from The Haunting on Palm Court who would it be? Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
Nancy because she is the epitome of a Southern grandmother. She is sassy, feisty and most of all, loving. I wish I could spend a day at the beach with her and talk about her past. There are some deep stories there, that I plan to share in later books.
