This book is a detailed account of the research on gut health and the benefits of healthy eating. The book describes 21 smoothies along with a new superfood Flavonoid additive that will help people with health benefits. Holistic living in total.

Interview with Diya Nath

What was the hardest scene from your book to write?

The hardest parts of my book to write were chapters 3 (Main Ingredients in Your Food), 5 (Introduction to Flavonoids), and 7 (Ingredients in the Smoothies). They took the most planning, writing, time, and research. I had to think about what information to put into the chapters, how to sequence it, and tie it into how it related to smoothies and healthy eating. I also had to decide which points of each chapter were the most important and which were not important or not related to my topic. It was also tough to condense the information into just a few pages to make it easier to read, understand, and not bore the reader. I loved finding all of the facts to put into the book!

Why did you choose to write in your particular field or genre?

I had many health struggles when I was younger and I wanted to share my story on how I improved my lifestyle with healthy eating to help young teens like me! I also did 2 years of research on the gut microbiome and how what you ingest affects it. Since your gut microbiome, which has millions of species of good bacteria, can easily be negatively affected and could cause tons of problems for your body in the future, I tied that in with my health story to help educate people on the importance of gut health and eating healthy! I also provided 21 smoothie recipes that people can use to start improving their eating habits today!

If you write in more than one genre, how do you balance them?

If you want to write in more than one genre or topic, you want to connect both of them and show how they are related to help the book flow more. If you have two completely different genres in your book and write in or about them like they are two different things, the book will become disconnected (the topics are different and look different to the reader, so it is confusing). So, using research and facts to connect the two to further and strengthen your topics and claims can be used as a balancing method.

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I really enjoyed sharing my story and research and talking about the benefits of the foods you eat. It felt great to share my story to show that becoming healthy and losing weight through lifestyle changes is possible. My research was something I used to back up my claim and further my point and opened a lot of eyes to thinking about their gut health. I also felt good educating people on healthy eating and diet and providing delicious smoothies people can make to improve their health and to even cure their sweet tooth. It felt awesome to share facts that people needed to hear to improve their lifestyle and to help and influence people through my book!

What book that you have read has most influenced your life?

ScienceNews was probably the most influential piece of writing that I have read. I have been working on publishing my book since two years ago and was unable to publish my work. Before doing my research, which was 2 years ago, I would have only published the recipes. No life story, no research, nothing. My mom had me read a ScienceNews magazine about the relationship between Parkinsons and gut bacteria. This sparked all of the research that I wanted to do and really educated me on how what you ate affected your gut bacteria, and therefore, risk of getting diagnosed with Parkinson’s. This magazine influenced me to conduct my two years of research and include my health story and share my findings, which made a much better book and even educated me on healthy eating! Knowledge is power!

Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?

I am 14 years old and I live in Chandler, Arizona. I love cooking, reading, playing video games and editing videos! I want to participate in an Esports team in college while studying to be a Culinary Neurologist! Yes, you heard that right, Culinary Neurologist! I want to study how food affects the brain in correlation with the body. I want to look at hormone levels like dopamine and serotonin (hormones that make you feel happiness or pleasure) are affected by certain foods and then use my findings to make “Happy Fine Dining Meals” in my fine dining restaurant! I love spreading wholesomeness and positivity and inspiring people to help themselves!

Can you tell us something about your book that is not in the summary?

I have a discord server called the S.P.E.A.K. Server which is for helping people talk about themselves, their opinions and their problems without judgement. Discord is a platform where people can join servers or groups which have different text and voice channels for chatting. You can also live stream and sync certain accounts to your discord account. You can also make your own servers for your own purposes which people can join. Then, we use breathing techniques and meditation to motivate people to help themselves! Diya's mission is to change this world from inside out and motivate self help and self healing using unique healthy recipes, introducing her own brand of super food of flavonoids (Oxi-Blast) and also by introducing meditation and breathing techniques to live a better life.

Her discord server SPEAK (Support, Positivity, Equality, Acceptance/Assistance and Kindness) that she started with only 2 people a few weeks back now has over 30+ subscribers who wants to talk to her about their problems and frustrations, and Diya being a good listener, listens to their problems and asks them to practice breathing and meditation with her or provide some encouraging words that the friend was desperate to hear.

She is also the youngest proponent of smoothies and has developed 64 unique combinations of fresh fruits and vegetables, Oxi-Blast, superfoods, condiments and a liquid base. She shares 21 of those in this book and she also provides a grocery list of ingredients in her website to make efficient shopping possible. Her book is also full of treasured facts for each of the ingredients with their nutritional values to you to make a conscious decision about the food that you are eating.

Her passion to learn from her life lessons and motivate the youth to be a better version of themselves, take care of their stress, depression and anxiety by simply learning to express their feelings and also eat healthy to keep chronic illness away. She comes from a family history of diabetes, blood pressure, chronic allergies and heart problems, so she is trying her best to stay healthy and also reach the younger generation to maintain a balance in their lives from very early in life to ward of predisposed conditions.

Her research on microbiome (E.coli) and how it is affected by different chronic medications that we take on a daily basis like metformin, losartan, ibuprofen , tylenol and even vape , shows the deleterious side effects it can have on gut bacteria. Hence, with the help of her research, while working at an ASU lab, she is trying to quantify the amount of flavonoids in Oxi-Blast to give a healthier option to oneself and start on a journey of self healing.
