Sorcerers Reborn: Earth

by Richard B.

GENRE: Fantasy

BLURB:

Sorcerers Reborn is Book One in a series that begins here on Earth and takes you on a new and exciting journey in the world of Sorcerers, Dragons, Elves and more.

Midnight stops. She feels something she hasn’t felt in three thousand years, something that possesses magic. It’s to the east in the mountains. She runs toward the beacon. She stands in front of a sheer stone wall hundreds of feet tall. There is a cave three quarters of the way up where the magic resides. If she tries to reach whatever is up there, it could potentially kill her. She’s come this far, but her journey isn’t over yet.

Midnight was exiled to earth with six Sorcerers by the evil Sorcerer Tay’Ron. She is a creature of magic, created by magic. She holds the gift of Sorcery from six Sorcerers who have passed on, and she is on a mission to find people on earth who are worthy of possessing this power. Her legacy must continue. Time is of the essence.

She possesses the gift of Sorcery. Midnight is a creature derived from magic, a fairy creature created from magic. She is not a Sorcerer. The six other Sorcerers are the six she carries inside of herself.

Excerpt:

The next morning, they put enough of the leftover food to last them the day into their backpacks. They had no idea what they would find, so it was better to be prepared. The rest they left sitting by the grill for the scavengers.

Runner and Luna had left the campsite but were still within the range of their sensory perception. As Jason removed the bubble, he heard a shrill shriek overhead. When he looked up, he saw two eagles diving from the sky at a great speed. They back winged to land by the leftover meat. Jason could sense only hunger, no fear.

Susan and Samantha were pleased at seeing such magnificent creatures this close. The span of their wings was almost two meters, and they stood nearly a meter tall. It was no wonder they had no fear of the three humans standing only a few feet away.

This is the chance of a lifetime,” Samantha said. “We can study them like we did the wolves. Just think of what we could see, and do, if we could fly.”

Winter must have been hard for the bald eagles as well, so the three Sorcerers left them to their purloined meal and continued toward the source of the magic. A short distance later they reached the next plateau, and another hurdle greeted them. Susan cursed, Samantha shook her head, and Jason looked in disbelief at the river of half-frozen water coming from the crevasse.

Is that where we are going?” Jason pointed toward the fissure.

Yes, it is, that is where the magic emanates from,” Samantha said.

We have to figure out how we are going to get there from here. Walking is out of the question. Let’s return to our cabin and try to figure this out,” said Jason.

The eagles were finishing their meal when the Sorcerers returned to camp. Susan didn’t want them to leave so she gave a large salmon to each of them.

What is this?” a male voice asked.

We can give you all you can eat while we are here. We want to observe you so we can become eagles too.”

Susan turned into a wolf long enough for the eagles to see her before she turned back.

How did you do that?” the male voice asked.

Jason saw an opening. Susan had a great idea. If they were able to turn themselves into these majestic birds, they could fly to whatever was hidden in that crevasse. All he had to do was help Susan convince them to stay long enough to learn.

I am Jason, and my cohorts are Susan and Samantha. We are Sorcerers on a quest to find a magical object hidden in these mountains. We met a pair of wolves yesterday and studied them until we could change into wolves. We would like to do the same thing with you and your mate.”

Rick (Richard B.) Ogle was born in 1951 in Northern Ontario. This is his first appearance in the writing world. He worked for forty-five plus years as a journeyman fabricator/welder. In 1978 Rick wrote a short story titled "Storms" that turned into two books. His work always came first, so writing took the back burner. In 1998 Rick went back to school to learn something that would get him out of his chosen trade as a fabricator/welder. In 1999 he spent six months as an adult literacy tutor and found that was rewarding when he saw the progress each student was making. He currently

He instructed classes for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access at the North Cariboo Community Skills Center in Quesnel BC.
