GOLDEN BLOOD
Tim Vee
GENRE: Vampire Horror
BLURB:
In 1540, conquistador Balthazar Jiménez de Quesada embarks on a quest for gold but encounters an ancient evil in the jungles of Colombia, La Pastola, transforming him into an immortal vampire. Centuries later, as Napoleon's army clashes with the British in 1815, a brutal massacre near Walloon births a new vampire desperate to break her curse. In present-day Los Angeles, a man with the rarest blood type—Golden Blood—enters a dangerous world where the line between predator and prey blurs, as a secret society of vampires hunts for the key to their salvation…or their destruction.
Golden Blood is a gripping tale of horror, history, and the eternal struggle for redemption, spanning from the New World's blood-soaked jungles to the underbelly of modern L.A.
Golden Blood is the story about one vampire's search for Golden Blood that can reverse the vampiric curse and her need for revenge against the vampire that slaughtered her family and turned her into a vampire centuries before. Set in the jungles of Colombia in the 1500s, the Caribbean in the 1700s, Europe in the 1800s and 1900s, and present-day Los Angeles, Golden Blood is a dark, bleak, and gothic story.

Excerpt:
She walked amongst the crowds feeling nervous and paranoid - she smelled the shrimp being boiled at a seafood restaurant, and people walked past her eating hotdogs covered in fried onions and mustard and slurping soda. She saw the faces of the people - laughing and smiling, happy and enjoying themselves, and she was jealous. She saw the lines of people waiting for cotton candy and heard the yells of joy from the roller coaster rattling past overhead. She saw families holding hands and taking photos. She watched the children’s faces full of joy as they rode on the kid’s fairground rides and their parents’ faces as they watched, smiling and waving and taking photos. Yvette stood and stared at the Ferris wheel, rotating slowly as loud music blared, and people above waved and shouted and laughed.
She moved to the end of the pier, where couples stood and sat, held hands, kissed, took selfies, and watched the sunset.
She stood at the railing and immediately lowered her glasses and the orange glow of the sun was reflected on her face, and her dark brown eyes sparkled in the warm light. A single tear rolled from her eye, and she held her breath. The sun dipped lower and became a blood-red ball, filtered through the ocean’s haze and Los Angeles’ polluted, poisonous smog - and the sky around it became pink and golden and cyan, and as the sun dipped below the horizon, the sky became filled with violet, and then indigo, and then purple, and then deep inky black, and more tears rolled down her cheeks.
My Review:
I have read many vampire stories, but none quite like Golden Blood. Every vampire story is unique in its own way, but Golden Blood stands apart from any other vampire story I have read before. I love the fresh take on vampires and how they navigate their lives, considering they are actually dead, right?
The world-building in this one is incredibly unique and brilliantly executed in many ways. The descriptions are so vividly written that I had no trouble picturing what was happening in my mind, as if I were there witnessing it all. The descriptions definitely paint a well-disturbed image.
I appreciate that Golden Blood provides us with the history of the vampires and how they originated. I enjoyed seeing how the vampires evolved and became increasingly aware of their circumstances. I liked watching how they developed new ways to obtain their blood as the world around them changed and grew.
What a fascinating vampire tale that is sure to grab your attention from the first page and hold onto it until the last page is read; even then, I don’t think it will let go for a long time.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Golden Blood and highly recommend it to anyone who loves a good vampire story! Grab a copy of Golden Blood today!
