When a man in power believes he's God, mankind doesn't have a prayer

Interview with Author Aaron Ryan

What is your favorite part of the book?

I really love the defection. I can’t say where it is, when it is nor who it is, but it…is…POWERFUL. There are actually two in the book, but you’ll see where both go. The one, however, is incredibly compelling, and sets the stage for future disruptions in the ensuing chapters of the series (which I can’t wait to unveil!)

Does your book have a lesson? Moral?

Sometimes we think we know God’s will, and we proceed along that trajectory, only to find out that we proceeded on our own path of desire. Alternatively, there is a recurring theme of justice vs. revenge in my books, and that has found its way into this as well. You could also say that “hope is hard to kill” would be a theme. The moral of the story however is that you have to be very careful what you worship. It might betray you.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

Entirely from my imagination. These are characters invented for the purpose of these stories, and they all serve a purpose. I do however enjoy a habit of naming my characters after combinations of other people’s names in my life, i.e., taking his first name and putting it together with her last name, and now I have a new character name.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?

Maximillian, Nero’s High Vassal, by far. I think his is where the greatest story lies. He is a man of depth, and he’s deluded by Nero of course. His character arc is impressive and compelling, and it’s one that you’ll question and wonder why he has been so blindly allegiant to Nero, when we, the reader, find Nero so utterly unbecoming.

What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?

Probably Kent Cannon. He is Drexler’s Lieutenant Colonel, and a bit of a naysayer. Sometimes those people can foul up the works. Or Anja, Swifty’s daughter. Headstrong, quick-to-rush-in, and maybe a bit too empirical and absolutist.

What would the main character in your book have to say about you?

That Aaron is a Christian and wanted to write something where the characters deeply feel the battle of faith being waged in their midst.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

I think both. And I believe that’s the goal of any good writer, to make your book so good on its own that it can serve as a standalone; however, this is a series opener, and it’s amazing. But if you like Alpha, you are going to LOVE Omicron. It is nothing short of dynamite, amping up the intensity and escalating the stakes superbly. I can’t wait to release it!
