Interview with Penny Heart

What is your favorite part of the book?

Oooh, good question! My favorite part is when they introduce the shy guy to all the fun he’s been missing in his crummy relationships, and he finds out that all the things he’s thought (about sex, about his relationships, and even about himself) were wrong.

However, I also love it when the other guys get Taylor to admit he wants things to continue with Vicky even after their winter vacation ends. While this is mostly a smutty book, there are emotional connections of both the romantic and fraternal kind.

Does your book have a lesson? Moral?

Not intentionally, no. However, it’s all about seizing opportunities when they’re presented to you and not letting pesky things like other peoples’ judgments and societal pressure stand in the way of your happiness. Life is hard enough; let consenting adults find love (and physical affection) how they may.

Are your characters based off real people or did they all come entirely from your imagination?

Entirely from my imagination. While I have written other books that have characters who share some characteristics with people I’ve known, these four characters are purely my imaginary friends.

Of all the characters you have created, which is your favorite and why?

In this book, Vicky is my favorite character. She’s confident, sassy, brave, and knows herself. She’s willing and eager to go after what she wants, and she doesn’t let other people’s expectations dictate how she lives her life.

However, I adore Cole, too. He hides his pain behind humor and doesn’t want even his closest friends to know how much pain he’s in, even as it’s literally hurting him and his health.

What character in your book are you least likely to get along with?

Taylor annoys me with his know-it-all, dismissive attitude and assumptions that he knows everybody else’s motivations (even though he is often correct). And I know lots of people adore alphaholes, but not me. He’s the right choice to set their group activities in motion, but there’s a reason Cole was the first person Vicky was drawn to. However, Taylor’s loyalty to his friends is commendable even as his jerkiness irritates me. I understand that his aloof behavior is a defense mechanism, but that doesn’t mean I like it.

What would the main character in your book have to say about you?

Vicky would tell me to stop being indecisive and self-sabotaging. Own my interests instead of making myself small or trying to mold myself to other people’s expectations. I’ve done better as I’ve gotten older, but it definitely requires a lot of work and isn’t my default setting. My husband is my greatest cheerleader, though, and that has helped me stand strong many times.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

I have ADHD, and that means I’m usually working on several books at the same time. (In fact, I released seven books in a six-month period, but only two of them were fully written during that period; the others were in varying stages of development over the last year and a half.) That means I have multiple books series (serieses?) going at the same time because I’m really clever and love making it easy to market my books, haha. None of my series are corrected, though.

However, because I’m terrible with names, even for my imaginary friends, I realized one day that I’ve written the same crappy ex-boyfriend into more than one book. 😆 So I inadvertently created an Easter egg of crappy exes across book universes that no one will notice but me. The funniest part is that I don’t even know anybody in real life with that name, and he isn’t based on anyone from my own history since I’ve been fortunate to not have any crappy exes. It still cracks me up, though!

About the Author

I write sexy books about kissing, happy ever afters, and the drama in between.

I live in the southern US with my husband, kids, and a cat who rules the house. I spend way too much time on the computer, and only some of it is looking at NSFW memes or reading romance novels.
