Character Inspiration
for the New Characters in the Book
I knew going into writing The Revolution of Ivy that I’d be introducing some new characters.
There was no way Ivy could survive alone beyond the fence. She would have to
find other people and learn from them.
Knowing that, I started thinking about the new characters and
pretty quickly I decided I wanted them to be near Ivy’s age. Although by the
end of the first book Ivy and Bishop are incredibly close, I felt it was
important for Ivy to find a true female friendship in the sequel. Her whole
life Ivy’s never really had a friend other than her sister Callie, and that’s
not exactly a model for a healthy relationship. That’s how the idea for the
character of Ash first blossomed. She is exactly what Ivy needs in a
friend—loyal, strong, funny.
Once I had Ash figured out, Caleb flowed pretty easily from
there. I pictured him in my mind and knew he was a little older than Ivy and
Ash and that he would be serious and a bit intimidating. And, as Ash was for
Ivy, he would be a true friend for Bishop (and Ivy). I definitely had to be
careful when writing Caleb because I didn’t want readers to worry that he was a
new love interest for Ivy. They are just friends and I wanted to make sure
readers understood that from the outset.
I had a great time coming up with Ash’s and Caleb’s characters
and writing their interactions with Bishop and Ivy. I think they help both
Bishop and Ivy grow and learn more about what it means to have loyal and loving
friends. I hope readers enjoy these new characters as much as I enjoyed writing
them!
My Review:
The Revolution of Ivy
Ivy is a great person who has love bouncing all over the
place. She will fight with everything in her to help someone whom she loves if
they are right. She is now living on the outside of the fence in a world that
she knows nothing of. Ivy doesn’t know how to survive in this new world that
she has now found herself in. But she is in luck when she meets two wonderful
people Caleb and Ash who help her adept to life on the other side of the fence.
They teach her all the things she needs to know to survive. She is not real
sure about them in the beginning but she eventually learns to care about them
as if they were family or maybe even more than.
Ivy has been betrayed by some of the people that she
loves and trusts the most. It is very hard for her now to know who to trust and
who not to trust. But the only way she can make it is to just go with her
instinct. When she runs into the Bishop it takes her a long time to be able to
trust him again. At first she pushes him a way but her body has a mind or a
will of its own. Sparks are flying whenever she is near Bishop. Her own body
betrays her. She is not sure if she will ever be able to let things go and just
listen to her heart and body. But the love she has for Bishop is so strong that
she has no choice but to let go and trust him once again and hope that it is
not a mistake.
Ivy has grown accustom to life on the other side of the
fence but she has decision to make. She must decide if she is going to continue
the life that she has now or if she is going to fight for what she knows to be
right; something that she has done her whole life. Will she return to the life
she once knew and fight for what is right or will she stay with the new friends
that she has made on the other side of the fence?
Do you like reading dystopian books? If you said yes then
I highly recommend that you grab your copy of The Revolution of Ivy but first
pick up The Book of Ivy and read this great story that is filled with a love
that most will never know. The love between Ivy and Bishop is like no other.
Together these two are amazing.

Summary from Goodreads:
After a brutal nuclear war, the
United States was left decimated. A small group of survivors eventually banded
together, but only after more conflict over which family would govern the new
nation. The Westfalls lost. Fifty years later, peace and control are maintained
by marrying the daughters of the losing side to the sons of the winning group
in a yearly ritual.
This year, it is my turn.
My name is Ivy Westfall, and my mission is simple: to kill the president’s
son—my soon-to-be husband—and restore the Westfall family to power.
But Bishop Lattimer is either a very skilled actor or he’s not the cruel,
heartless boy my family warned me to expect. He might even be the one person in
this world who truly understands me. But there is no escape from my fate. I am
the only one who can restore the Westfall legacy.
Because Bishop must die. And I must be the one to kill him…

I have the first book and I've been waiting on the 2nd to come out to read together. I am one of those people that don't like to wait for the sequels.
