GENRE: New Adult, Sci fi, Romance
BLURB:
Eclipsed by darkness,
the Romelands must face the ultimate quest. If they are forced toward the umbra
peak, they will be completely obscured.
Symone struggles with her most challenging battles … the conflict within
herself. Losing loved ones steals part of her soul. Despair has created a
gaping hole where her heart should be. Symone doesn’t even recognize herself.
She has to determine if this is the person she’s turned into, or if it is who
she has always been.
Nile is an attractive aristocrat whose charm and arrogance drives Symone
insane. Beyond Symone’s control, Nile is spun into her life. But she’s not sure
if she can have a relationship with him or where that could lead her. Embracing
love could make her whole again, but it may also destroy her. Symone must
travel through the opaque light in order to find where her destiny lies.
Symone’s family, Shiray and Syira, continue to fight in the feuds of their
galaxy. Together they have to find the balance between compassion and
sacrifice. Kadanans are being held captive, and they hold the fate of their
world in their hands. They have only begun to understand the consequences of
the devastating realities of war.
The enemy of my enemy is my friend, is the philosophy the Romelands now abide
by. With chaos and turmoil at every corner, they may forget what is worth
fighting for. The surge for power has erupted. Only the strongest race will be
left standing.

Chapter 17
* * * Symone * * *
Nile’s whole body screamed
uneasiness, but he smiled at Marie with veneration. Grabbing my hand, he rushed
us toward the opening. My team members plunged off the edge. Nile clutched my
palm tighter; we aborted together. My stomach somersaulted. Good thing I’d
eaten a light breakfast. Even though Marie had taken us lower, we were still
higher than I thought.
Expel the chute, Nile said in my
mind. I did, shortly after him, the force jolted me upward. I saw several of
the crew land safely. Nile and I glided harmlessly to the ground.
I glanced up to the sky. The two
Polar vessels were about to open fire on us. Marie geared our craft higher in
pursuit. She blasted multiple rounds on one, miraculously taking them out. The
second was still headed our way. Blue beams zipped around us. I took a
nosedive. A multitude of mountains surrounded the area, but we would never
reach them in time. Marie engaged but couldn’t penetrate their shield. They
were right on us. Nowhere to escape, I feared our impending demise. There was
no cover, only mounds of snow. My comrades attempted to shoot their guns at the
Polar vessel. Pointless. Marie increased her speed, flying straight toward our
attackers.
“What’s she doing?” I yelled over to
Nile.
“Marie! Don’t!” Nile shouted.
My stomach clenched. Marie crashed
the ship head first into the Polar craft. Neither her shield nor theirs could
withstand that kind of concussion. Both crafts buckled and reverberated against
each other. Metal and fragments of the ships dispersed as the vessels caused a
massive explosion.
The sound was all that existed until
it was joined by a rain of fire and debris that splayed everywhere. Kumar’s
screams pierced the remaining echo of the explosion, searing through my soul.
Why was life always so messed up?
My eyes watered. Nile wiped his
quickly. My breath lingered in front of me in a white vapor as I exhaled
heavily. The heated body suit I wore worked to keep me warm. Only my face could
feel the freezing weather. The temperature was bearable.
We didn’t have time to grieve.
Nile’s command snapped us to attention to deal with the reality we faced. Nile
looked at his telecom. He hit the pad, studying our location. He looked over at
me and Kumar, who was standing next to me, dazed. His eyes were red and glazed.
“Now that we are on land, we’ll
divert to Plan B. We head northeast.” Nile pointed. “That’s the main hostage
facility. We’ll meet up with Syira and the other land teams there to help
rescue the hostages.”
“The Polars are coming!” Haymitch
yelled.
A slew of them were running full
speed in our direction. “Everyone get into formation!” Nile demanded. Our team
formed a diamond shape, each of us touching back to back. Our lasers rose. The
sky was at war battle and it was a warzone on the ground. Chaos in three
hundred and sixty degrees. “Fire!”
