NBTM + #Giveaway: Dark Deliverance by Tamela Miles @jackiebrown20 @GoddessFish

Dark Deliverance
by Tamela Miles
GENRE: Paranormal Romance

BLURB:

Elle Connor's life is as grim as she had always feared. Years of demon slaying have left her with nothing to show for her trouble. She's convinced a "normal" life was never meant for her.

Patrick Holt wants nothing more than to be away from the holy wars and has lived quietly for years as an average human. The trouble is that he's anything but average--he's a fallen hybrid angel.

When Tagas the guardian angel pairs them up to investigate the brutal slayings of young women in Los Angeles, Elle wants nothing to do with Patrick. As Elle and Patrick begin to understand each other, irritation is forgotten and fiery passion ignites between them. "No ties" is how they both live, but Elle soon begins to long for much more. As they become sucked deeper into the mysterious killings, Elle fears that, in this battle, Hell will win.

Excerpt:

She covered his phone with one hand, forcing him to look up. Her full lips curved in a gentle smile. “I see what Tagas meant by your superior wisdom and experience. I didn’t mean to come across like a badass demon hunter who knows it all. You hunted demons long before I was even born.”

“So, now I’m old? Thanks.” He clicked off the phone and set it beside him on the seat. Elle gave a chuckle.

“Let’s just agree that you have a glorious past when it comes to slaying demons that has given you certain…um, insights into it that I don’t have.”

Elle watched his expression change, his eyes focusing intently on her as he smiled. Her heart began to beat a little faster. She wasn’t prepared to deal with this other, blatantly sensual part of Patrick in such close confines and moved to make more space between them.
He moved with her until their shoulders touched. “I have insights into many other things. Would you like to hear them, Elle?”

The heat of his glance and the softness of his tone made her hyperaware, her skin tingling. She cleared her throat nervously. “Sure, go ahead.”

Author Interview:

Thanks for hosting me today! I always look forward to book chat.

1. What inspired you to write Dark Deliverance?

I spent the better part of last summer binge watching old episodes of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I’ve always been fascinated with the lore of great hunters like Van Helsing. I decided to create a multicultural hunter who destroyed demons with special daggers and a pair of black stiletto boots because I couldn’t shake the image of her in my head and I couldn’t let her story go untold. The next thing that hit me was the idea to carry my demon hunter heroine, Elle’s, story into another story. From there, my Hell On Heels series was born. “Dark Deliverance”, #2 in the series deals with more adult themes, as Elle is now all grown up and ready (though she would argue!) for a real, lasting love in her dark life.

2. When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I knew that I would be a life- long writer, published or not, when I was about age ten or so. By then, I had notebooks filled with scribbled down little stories and ideas for new ones.

3. What is the earliest age you remember reading your first book?

The earliest age I remember reading was around age five, with colorful children’s books. When my mom told me it was story time, I was always giddy with excitement. She would lay out books for me to read and help me with words I didn’t yet understand.

4. What genre of books do you enjoy reading?

I absolutely love horror and paranormal romance. I read voraciously when it comes to those two genres.

5. What is your favorite book?

I have so many but two of my favorites are Stephen King’s “Cell” and all of Charlaine Harris’ Sookie Stackhouse mysteries.

6. You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?

That would be Stephen King because he’s brilliant when it comes to the horror genre. He seems to know exactly what it takes to terrify readers and delivers that consistently.

7. If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place or time. Where would you go and why?

I would definitely time travel back into the 1990’s. That time in my life was magical – the music, the movies, the clothing. I do sometimes travel back in my mind when I hear a 90s song and it still feels as if it were only a few years ago, instead of two decades.

8. When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for you or is it a difficult task?

Writing, for me, is never easy but I do little things to keep me motivated and inspired. I get the teapot going, turn on my boombox for musical inspiration, and just plow ahead. Working with a basic outline always makes writing a little easier.

9. Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?

My sister has three dogs and when she visits, it’s enough pet love for me. I would love to have a kitten or a pup but I’m so busy these days. I definitely intend to be a pet owner one day soon because pets have so much love to share.

10. What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to eat?

Pizza, sans all traces of garlic, is my favorite. Next in line, is Southern style barbecue. Yum!

11. Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an author?

My piece of advice is to avoid distractions when you’re writing. Learn how to pace yourself with breaks but keep your bottom in that chair until you’ve met your daily goal.

Thanks for talking with me today!
