Outfielder
Tristan Murrell has a problem. As the number two slugger for the Suttonville
Sentinels, his team is counting on him to make their very first run at the
state championship. But he has a secret—his swing has totally deserted him. As
in, he can’t hit anything. He needs to fix the issue, and fast, but how?
Ballerina
Alyssa Kaplan has a problem, too. The shiny new sports complex in town has left
her family’s batting cage business on the verge of going under. Nailing her
audition for a prestigious dance company is everything, but there’s no way
she’s letting her some shiny big-box company destroy her family’s livelihood.
Tristan
needs a miracle. So does Alyssa. And maybe, just maybe, Tristan’s secret weapon
might be the girl of his dreams…

contains hot, shirtless baseball players, kisses that bring a ballerina to her
knees, and a lot of baseball smack-talk.

BOOKS IN THE SERIES
Baseball
player Kyle Sawyer has many labels: bad boy, delinquent, ladies’ man, fearless
outfielder… Only one of them is actually true. But then sweet ballet dancer
Faith Gladwell asks him to help wreck her reputation, and everything goes
sideways.
Faith
knows a thing or two about love, and what she had with her cheating jerk of an
ex wasn’t it. When he starts spreading rumors about her being an Ice Queen,
Faith decides it’s time to let a little bad into her life.
Lucky
for her, Kyle Sawyer—dark, dangerous, totally swoonworthy Kyle Sawyer—is
landscaping her backyard over Spring Break. Shirtless. And if she can convince
him to play along, “dating” Kyle will silence the rumors.
But
Faith’s plan threatens to expose Sawyer’s biggest secret of all…and that’s a
risk he’s not willing to take.
Disclaimer: This book
contains drop-the-book-and-fan-yourself kisses…and touches. Fall in love with a
bad boy at your own risk.
Interview with Kendra C. Highley
What inspired you to write Swinging
at Love?
This is the second book in a series
about a group of baseball players and the girls who turn their lives upside
down—in a good way. This particular story was actually an idea from my editor,
Heather Howland. Much like the first book (The
Bad Boy Bargain), she had a two sentence plot note, and off I went.
Can you tell us a little bit about the
next books in the Suttonville Sentinels series or what you have planned for the
future?
There’s one more book in the series,
coming out in the summer of 2017. It centers around Tristan’s best friend,
Dylan, and a newcomer, Lucy, who is his polar opposite. He’s a type-A, control
freak (pitcher, of course), and she’s daring and mischievous.
Can you tell us a little bit about the
characters in Swinging at Love?
Tristan Murrell is an outfielder
who’s set to become the captain of the Sentinels after Kyle Sawyer graduates.
He’s always been really confident in his ability, until he goes into a serious
hitting slump right before the state championship. Alyssa Kaplan, a friend of
Faith Gladwell’s, is a ballet dancer whose father owns a failing batting cage
business. She’s practical, level-headed, and hard-working. And she throws a
mean curveball.
You know I think we all have a favorite
author. Who is your favorite author and why?
Just one? That’s so hard…how about
my favorite right now. V.E. (Victoria) Schwab. I’ve read almost everything
she’s written in both adult and YA fiction, and I’ve loved it all.
If you could time-travel would you
travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you
like to visit this particular time period?
I’d like to go back to Jane Austen’s
era and meet her. Going back to question 4, she might be my favorite author
overall. I’ve read everything she’s written, too, and her wit is extraordinary,
while also being ahead of her time in creating strong female leads.
Do you have any little fuzzy friends?
Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
I have four cats—in my defense there
are four people in my house, too, so one cat per person. Katie, Comet, Rocket,
and Tori, all rescues/shelter adoptions. They keep us busy.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy
schedule to visit with us today.
Kendra C. Highley lives in north Texas with her
husband and two children. She also serves as staff to four self-important and
high-powered cats. This, according to the cats, is her most important job. She
believes in everyday magic, extraordinary love stories, and the restorative
powers of dark chocolate.
