Seers foretold the conflict would end by her hand. From the moment she drew her first breath, the neighboring kingdom has been trying to kill her so she could not grow powerful enough to destroy them. The king, fearing for his daughter’s life, has kept her confined to the castle grounds for most of her sixteen years. With the tide of war turning against them, the burden of her crown becomes too much to bear, yet one thing lifts her spirits amid the gloom.
Her servant girl, Kitlyn.
Alas, in a kingdom obsessed with the god of purity, she is terrified to confess her forbidden love. When her father makes a demand she cannot abide―marry a prince to forge a military alliance―Oona panics. He is handsome and honorable, but he’s not Kitlyn. Unable to admit why she cannot obey, Oona does the only thing she can think of, and runs away.
Alone and unprepared in the wilderness, she prays the gods will let Kitlyn find her—before the assassins do.
My Review:
In the land of Lucernia lived two little girls, Oona and
Kitlyn, one grew up to be a princess and the other a servant girl. The two
little girls had been best friends since the age of three. Lucernia has been in
war with a neighboring kingdom for many, many years with lots of bloodshed and
families losing their loved ones. The seers have foretold that the princess of
Lucernia will be the one to end the war.
For as long as she can remember the princess has not been
allowed off the grounds of the castle. The neighboring kingdom has been sending
in spies and assassins to kill the princess and when one makes it to the
princess bedchamber she is very frightened but luckily she is saved by her best
friend, the servant girl.
After being attacked and with not being allowed to do
whatever she wants to do (just like any other sixteen year old) the princess
decides to leave, to run away. So when the opportunity arises she takes off
into the woods hoping that her friend will soon follow. But while she is
running away her friend is being arrested for stealing and thrown in the dungeon.
In order to save the two kingdoms and stop the war the
princess is required to marry the prince of the neighboring kingdom but that is
another reason the princess runs away is because she is in love with someone
else and does not wish to marry the prince. The princess is in love with the
servant girl. With their love being a forbidden love they are afraid to let
anyone know how they feel about each other. The problem would probably no
longer be about the fact that one of them is a princess and the other a servant
girl.
I really loved reading The Eldritch Heart and watching the
love between two people grow and become something so beautiful. Their love not
only went for the two of them but spread over a kingdom or two as well. These
two girls have more love in their little fingers than most of the adults living
in the castle. These two girls wanted to stop all the hurt and loss while some
just wanted more power for themselves at the expense of someone else. The
princess and the servant girl put their own lives in danger just to protect the
other.
The Eldritch Heart is not the first book I have read by
Matthew and hopefully it won’t be the last. Reading The Eldritch Heart is like
watching a movie play out in your head. The description of the lands with the
trees and the grass and the castle was written in such a way that it was like I
was there with them and seeing it all for myself.
The Eldritch Heart is an amazing and wonderful read and I
would recommend it to anyone who loves a good fantasy that is filled with lots
and lots of magic and mystery and about two beautiful people with great big
hearts.

Born in a little town known as South Amboy NJ in 1973, Matthew has been creating science fiction and fantasy worlds for most of his reasoning life. Somewhere between fifteen to eighteen of them spent developing the world in which Division Zero, Virtual Immortality, and The Awakened Series take place.
