Apocalypse Five Stacey Rourke (Archive of the Fives, #1)
Publication date: February 12th 2019
Genres: Science Fiction, Young Adult
Good luck and have a pleasant apocalypse.
The end of the world is coming. How or when, scientists can’t agree upon. For decades, Earth’s best line of defense has been a team of young soldiers known as the Apocalypse Five, forced into virtual reality simulations to train for Doom’s Day. But, this is no game. Death on the grid is brutally final and calls up the next in a long line of cadets.
Stationed aboard the AT-1-NS Starship, the A5 are celebrities thrust into the limelight by a calling they didn’t choose. All it takes is one unscheduled mission, showing seventeen-year-old team leader Detroit a harsh and unfathomable reality, to shake the A5’s belief in all they thought they knew. After questioning people with the power to destroy them, the team is framed for a crime they didn’t commit and marked for death. Now, the hunt is on.
Can the Apocalypse Five expose the truth the starship would kill to keep hidden? Or, will their bravery end in a public execution?
Interview with Author Stacey Rourke
As a
writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
If I wanted to be all regal and literary, I
would say a raven … in true Poe fashion. Realistically, I’m totally more of a
bumbling panda.
How
many hours a day do you put into your writing?
I’m a full-time writer, so I would say about
23 hours a day I’m working, or thinking about working.
Do
you read your book reviews? If yes, do they affect what you write in the
future?
When a book first launches, I do as a way
of determining how it’s received by my readers. After that, NOPE! I stop before
the trolls weigh in.
Do
you leave hidden messages in your books that only a few people will find?
All the time. ;-)
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Apocalypse Five?
Our team is made up of five
teenagers that have been trained since infancy to be soldiers. Detroit is our
leader, she is a strong, sassy, young woman whose greatest concern is to keep
each member of her team safe. Houston is the oldest member of the team, and
sure shot that never misses. Augusta—Auggie—struggles with being forced into a
roll he never chose. He self-medicates with alcohol more than he should. The
youngest team members, at only thirteen, are our twins Reno and Juneau. Juneau
thrives on adventure, but watches old movies from the archives to see the kind
of happiness and closeness people once had. Secretly she longs for that. Reno
is a quiet soul; whose main purpose is to keep his twin safe. Together they are
more than a team … they’re a family.
Can you tell us a little bit about
your next books or what you have planned for the future?
The next book in this series will
be Rogue Five. A new, more brutal A5 team will be assigned, coming after our
beloved original teammates.
Do you allow yourself a certain number of hours to write or do you
write as long as the words come?
Both. I make myself get in at least
1,000 words a day, but if the words are flowing, I keep going!
Do you have a certain number of
words or pages you write per day?
See above, LOL! 1,000 words a day
is my requirement.
What inspires you to write?
I find inspiration in places I
least accept. A person I see on the street. A movie. A song. The sunlight
glittering off a lake. I take those moments whenever I can find them.
