A prequel novella to the new series from USA Today’s ‘must read YA paranormal romance’ author, Christina Bauer.

One day, eighteen-year-old Thorne will be the Emperor of the Omniverse, the single being who rules countless worlds. Trouble is, his father Cole–who’s also the current Emperor–is a sadistic freak.

In fact, Cole won’t even keep his promises to the very humans who got him his throne.

Thorne won’t stand for it. He decides to travel to the human world and make good on his father’s promises. What he doesn’t count on is falling in love….

“I love how Bauer manages to add some awesome new world building to each of her books.”Woven Magic

This new series is perfect for: fans of urban fantasy, action and adventure, cool science, evil corporations, forbidden romance and hot new classmates who may or may not be aliens.

My Review:

Eighteen-year-old Thorne travels to other dimensions/realms to save their worlds and the people who live there. Thorne is assigned a task to travel to an alternate Earth to help a human woman find her daughter. What Throne doesn’t count on is falling in love.

In the blink of an eye the love of his life is taken from him and whisked away by a man who is interested in Meimi because of the things she can do. Throne has a short time frame in which to find Meimi before she disappears. Throne must come up with a plan to save his transcendent before it is too late.

In Scythe the first prequel of the Dimension Drift series we get the story from Throne’s transcendent Meimi. Now in Umbra the second prequel of the Dimension Drift series we get to see things from Throne’s point of view.

I really enjoyed seeing things from Throne’s side and getting to know his character and who he is and what makes him who he is. I like stories where you get to know each character separately and seeing the world through their eyes. I also like all the technology and how they traveled from one dimension to another. It was like watching a movie playing out in my head. It was like the author and I was on the same page and we both had ESP.

Umbra may only be a short story that can be read in a couple of hours but it definitely reads like a full length novel and is fast paced with action from beginning to end. It will pull you into its depths from the first page and keep you mesmerized right up until you have turned that last page and then leave you wanting more.

I would recommend Umbra to all fans of dystopia set in a futurist world and filled with lots of action from front to back.

Author Bio:

Christina Bauer thinks that fantasy books are like bacon: they just make life better. All of which is why she writes romance novels that feature demons, dragons, wizards, witches, elves, elementals, and a bunch of random stuff that she brainstorms while riding the Boston T. Oh, and she includes lots of humor and kick-ass chicks, too.

Christina graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School with BA’s in English along with Television, Radio, and Film Production. She lives in Newton, MA with her husband, son, and semi-insane golden retriever, Ruby.
