Blog Tour + #Giveaway: Stranger Rituals by Kali Rose Schmidt @kalirschmidt @XpressoTours

Stranger Rituals
Kali Rose Schmidt
Publication date: July 9th 2019
Genres: Fantasy, New Adult

A fighter with a venomous grudge.
A monster with an immortal curse.
A girl with a terrible gift.

All three out for blood in a land torn apart by harsh gods and holy wars. Each entwined with the other, on their own quests for vengeance, and yet held together by strange links to sinister pasts. As their fates unravel, a dangerous romance blooms, and violent darkness beckons.

At turns both darkly humorous and utterly morbid, STRANGER RITUALS is the startling first novel in Kali Rose Schmidt’s dark new series.

Interview with Kali Rose Schmidt:

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
An Elf. Is that allowed? If so, definitely Elf.

How many hours a day do you put into your writing?
About four hours a day of pure writing. The rest of the work day is spent editing or marketing.

Do you read your book reviews? If yes, do they affect what you write in the future?
Sometimes… I try not to because it can throw you off course, but at the same time, it’s really helpful to understand what a reader likes/dislikes and wants to see more or less of. Generally speaking, my reviews have been very kind, so occasionally I’ll peek in on them.

They don’t affect what I write next, but they may affect how I write it.

Do you leave hidden messages in your books that only a few people will find?
Yes. Sometimes bits of my personal life are thrown in, and the dedication and acknowledgements always have sneaky messages to a few people.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Stranger Rituals?
I can tell you they’re bad. Even the ones you think are good…they’re bad. This is a dark, dark world. I made sure people knew that going into it, but some early readers were still gasping at how dark it was. And characters really help create a world, so these characters are darkness incarnate.

They’re all battling their own religious struggles, difficult upbringings, and painful pasts. They move through these in their own ways. All the while, a holy war is lurking, so there’s a lot going on.

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
Stranger Rituals is part of a 3-book series, so the second book, Shadow Palace, will be available in the fall.

I also have a sci-fi series out, called The Others (Cold & Blood is the first book in that series). In addition, An Unholy Magick- a dark, new adult fantasy, will be released in the fall as well.

Do you allow yourself a certain number of hours to write or do you write as long as the words come?
I write 3k-6k words per day, Monday-Friday, and usually on weekends as well. I have to get a minimum of 3k, but usually in the four hours I have to write, I get a bit more.

Do you have a certain number of words or pages you write per day?
Yes J

What inspires you to write?
Everything. Literally everything. Music is a big influence on me, which is noted in my books. Walks in the woods, art, and history really all inspire me as well. Dreams, too.
