Release Date: April 2019
Summary:
Being possessed by a vampire
sucks!
Alana Jones’s world has been
completely turned upside-down after being bitten by a vampire’s reflection in a
cursed mirror. Now she’s forced to stay in an abandoned Victorian inn on an
isolated island off the west coast of Florida, where Alana lives a double life:
one as herself and one as a vicious murderer. Over the past year, she has spilt
and drunk the blood of sixteen victims. The guilt of their deaths slowly eating
away her sanity.
Sixteen dead . . .
However, things become even more
complicated when Alana finds Cole, a surfer she felt a connection with the
moment they met on the mainland, locked up in the island’s shed. Knowing his
death is inevitable, she attempts to distant herself from him, continually
reminding herself of the monster residing underneath her skin. Unfortunately,
it’s a small island, and the more she interacts with Cole, the more her
feelings grow for him.
Eventually, she has to make a
decision. Either accept his fate or find a way to expel the vampire’s spirit
from within herself before she murders him as well.
Character Interview: Alana
Setting: The studio office of Allen, owner and manager of
a small indie art gallery called Perspectives.
Today, we’re honored to meet Alana Jones, the main
protagonists of Dark Reflections.
*Watches Alana nervously glance around the room* Alana,
thank you for agreeing to meet me. You don’t have to be nervous. I’m not here
to judge, and Allen has made sure our conversation will remain private.
*Gestures to a stool* Have a seat.
AJ: *Hesitantly steps forward and takes a seat*
I hear you live on a private island all on your own. That
must be a real slice of heaven.
AJ: *Tucks hair behind ear* First of all, the island I live
on is no paradise. Though it is lovely during the dry season, it’s a prison
island I’m forced to live on. On top of it, the wet season can be hell with the
roasting heat and severe thunderstorms. Second, I’m never alone. Charissa, the
vampire that possess my body each night, is always causing mayhem for me to
clean up. And there are the poor donors Charissa collects.
Donors? As in blood donors? *Sees Alana nod in reply* How
many donors have there been?
AJ: Sixteen, if you count Charissa’s latest donor, Cole.
*Blushes and averts eyes* The other fifteen are unfortunately dead. The first
donor died trying to escape the island, while the majority of the others were
killed by Charissa’s hand. *Sighs* And it will be Cole’s fate as well.
Would you be willing to tell us a bit about Charissa’s
new donor and your new housemate?
AJ: *Cheeks turn bright red* When I met him, here, at the
gallery, I thought he was sweet. But now that I have lived with him for a
while, I find he can be obnoxious and sharped tongued. Of course, he thinks I’m
Charissa and that I’m the one who destroyed his life, so I can understand his
reasons.
Do you typically meet the donors before Charissa brings
them to the island?
AJ: No. Cole was the first donor that I met before Charissa
brought him home.
Do you think that is why you might have feelings for him?
AJ: *Averts her eyes, focuses on the pages of Allen’s draft
manga, and shrugs* Doesn’t matter. He can’t know who I am. It would only put
him in more danger.
Put him in more danger because of Charissa or because he
might like you in return?
AJ: *Shoots a death glare* He can’t afford to put his guard
down around me. Charissa would take advantage of that, then we would both
suffer.
Right. This Charissa has already killed fifteen victims.
What do you make of these other murders occurring all along the Gulf Coast?
Some are even saying it’s like the return of Jack the Ripper.
AJ: It’s sixteen victims—Charissa killed the owner of the
island inn a few days after I arrived. As for the other murders, I only just
learned about them, so I don’t know what to think. I only hope to God it isn’t
Charissa. I already have enough blood on my hands. I don’t need more ghosts
haunting my every step.
Ghosts? Have you been seeing ghosts of those Charissa
murdered on the island?
AJ: *Says nothing for a moment* I need to get going. I don’t
have long before Charissa takes hold and returns me to the island.
Very well. Again, thank you for meeting us, Alana.
AJ: *Nods weakly* Thanks for having me.
