Gwen is just a young girl with a very powerful gift. She has been taught all of her life to hide her ability. She was taught if she didn’t keep it hidden then they would come after her and take her away. But Gwen is so young and doesn’t know how to control her ability nor does she know anything about it as she has never had anyone to teach her.

When she is caught using her powers she is taken away and locked up. The ones who took her to realize how powerful she is and want to use her as a powerful weapon against their enemies. Gwen just wants to go home and live her life the way she wants. She vows never to let them break her no matter how much they punish her.

Gwen is just like any other teenage girl and wants the same things they do. She is rebellious, she wants to do things her way and not be controlled. So when she can’t be controlled she is assigned a new trainer, S, as Gwen was instructed to call him. S tries his best to teach Gwen all the rules and how to fight to protect herself but she just doesn’t want to be there. She wants her freedom, just like anyone else.

Gwen promises to follow all the rules but she is just so strong-willed that it is so hard for her to do so as she doesn’t like the things they are teaching her and her main thing is that she wants to be free. When she sees that her way is not cutting it or getting her what she wants she decides to try and talk to S is to help her. Can she change his mind? Can she get him to see the truth? Can she talk him into coming over on her side?

Shadow's Dissident has a mysterious element to it and there is danger lurking right around the corner. Although Shadow's Dissident is a very unique story in and of its own it has the hint of a dystopian society with a romantic suspense feel to it. I would like to have known more about the world and society that Gwen and S live in. I would also like to have known more about Gwen’s powers too.

All in all, though Shadow's Dissident was a fun little read that I would recommend it to anyone looking for a romantic fantasy. One-click your copy of Shadow's Dissident today to begin this epic fantasy adventure!
