Moving into a suburban, middle class, stereotypical neighborhood was never on Julian’s to do list. When his identical twin brother inherits their Aunt’s house in such a place, then finds a good job, Julian reluctantly follows. He expected to feel isolated by being the only gay person on the block, okay, more likely the zip code, but a few nosy housewives eagerly inform him the neighbor across the street is gay, and punned, Mr. Creepersen, due to several murders that occurred in his basement five years ago.

Interview with Nina Schluntz
How many books have you written and which is your favorite?
In 2023 I’ll topping thirty novels. My favorite is always the book I’m currently working on.
If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?
I once thought of doing a sequel for this book, but in the end other stories became a priority and it never worked out. It’s probably for the best, it was going to be really sad story, where the twin brother dies.
Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?
I always make sure all of my books work as stand alone novels. I think readers appreciate that. In my newer novels I am starting to implant secret eggs, like a character who shows up repeatedly. Maybe later, I’ll explain how he is able to do that or give him his own novel. He’s not in Nosy Neighbors.
How did you come up with the title for your book?
I had some nosy neighbors! Ha! I thought about how everyone gossips in neighborhoods and mixed that with a crime drama.
How long did it take you to write this book?
I was really in my element when I wrote this one. I think I churned it out in two weeks.
What does the title mean?
Nosy Neighbors is a pun on how gossiping housewives can stir up drama and be the reason crimes go uncovered. And the reason why people who are actually good get ostracized.
What did you learn when writing the book?
That people prefer my contemporary novels the most! And perhaps the ones with a mix of murder and mystery. Those always seem to sell the best. I never thought a book about ghosts would be such a hit.
What surprised you the most?
A romance is a romance, no matter if it’s a man and woman or two men. People are still enticed by the adventure and thrill of falling in love. I thought I’d lose some fans when I switched to a male couple as my leads but readers don’t seem to mind at all.
Have you ever killed off a character your readers loved?
Oh yes, but the fans always say they understand why it had to happen. I never kill someone for no reason. It has to be to move the plot forward or trigger an event. I’ve seen fans get quite upset when their beloved character is killed for no reason.
What do you do to get inside your character’s heads?
It’s more like the characters are in my head! I have a whole cast and let them do their thing. I do find that socializing with people helps me create realistic characters. A writer needs isolation to write but you have to expose yourself to the world to create your world in the book.
