Shine His Light
by Marie McGaha
GENRE: Christian devotional
BLURB:
Life is the journey we take on our way to Heaven. It's not easy, it's not pretty, and sometimes, it's downright difficult. However, we have an Advocate unlike any other, Jesus Christ. In Shine His Light, the author uses scriptures and her own life lessons to help others get through the bumpy spots.

Excerpt:
When I was a kid, the series “Star Trek” was the greatest sci-fi show on TV, with the most up-to-date special effects. People disappeared in the transporter, we saw the Enterprise fly through the stars at warp speed, and of course, we saw really strange people and creatures from other planets. Sometimes, the planets were inhospitable and wouldn’t support life as we know it, so the crew moved on.
Of course, it didn’t take long for technology to leap forward and when I watch the old “Star Trek” episodes now, the special effects seem so antiquated, they’re something we laugh about. We can take what is already there and turn it into something better, something brand new and more efficient but we can’t take nothing and turn it into something. Only God can do that.
When God’s Spirit hovered over the face of the waters, He did not think it was inhospitable or that nothing could ever come from it. God looked at the waters and thought, I can make dry land. I can make light. I can take some of that dirt and form a human being. And that is exactly what He did. But He did not stop there, He formed a human being from a pile of dirt and then, He did something remarkable, He breathed His own Spirit into that pile of dirt and gave it life. That pile of dirt became the first man—a living, breathing, moving, thinking person. And God said it was “very good.” Up until then, everything created was called “good,” but man and woman were “very good.”
Interview with Marie McGaha
What is your schedule like when you’re writing a book?
My schedule is always hectic but add writing to the mix, and it’s chao! I live on a small farm with pigs, chickens, dogs, and a horse named, Horse, so I’m always hauling hay, feed, cleaning poo, or some other glamourous chore! I enjoy writing so I get the chance to sit down!
Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?
I sort of did. I wrote non-fiction under my nickname, Rie McGaha.
Have you ever gotten reader’s block?
Reader’s block? No, I love to read! Writer’s block on the other hand is very real! Not so much with non-fiction, but with fiction, I’ve gone for very long periods not having a single character say a word to me!
Does your family support your career as a writer?
I’m not sure they even consider it as a career. I think it’s mostly something their crazy mom does, and they don’t know why!
How many hours a day do you write?
That depends on the day. Some days I write nothing, and other days I write non-stop. When the inspiration hits, I just can’t stop.
If you could invite any three people for dinner, whom would you invite?
I would invite Jesus Christ first and foremost. Abraham Lincoln is someone I’d like to talk with, and James Patterson is another writer I’d like to know.
Would you share something about yourself that your readers don’t know (yet)?
I just got married! I was a widow and truly thought I would never marry again, although I wanted to, but my late husband was such a good man, and loved me so completely, I never imagined meeting another man who could possibly fill that void. But I did and even though it took six months for us to actually get together, I know God is the one who put us together.
Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?
When writing non-fiction, I write what God wants me to write but with fiction, I write what the voices in my head tell me to!
How do you celebrate when you finish your book?
That’s funny! I don’t really celebrate, but I do get a cup of coffee and watch TV and relax.
If you could be mentored by a famous author, who would it be?
Definitely, James Patterson! I love his Alex Cross books, and the way he is able to write in both first and third person in the same story is amazing!
