Review Tour + #Giveaway: THE GROUP by Kevin R. Doyle @GoddessFish

by Kevin R. Doyle

GENRE: Mystery

Sure, Ron Green had made a mistake, but it wasn't one that millions of other guys hadn't made before him. And maybe he deserved some sort of punishment, like his wife leaving him or his kids hating his guts. But this? Being the main suspect in a single murder was bad enough, but at the same time knowing he was a potential victim of a serial killer was even worse. However, before Green could convince the cops of his innocence, he first had to convince them the serial killer actually existed, and at the moment they weren't believing a thing he said.

Tell me one thing, though. Am I officially a suspect?”

They didn’t charge you and lock you up. But like I keep telling you, it’s early yet. As far as I could tell, yeah, they’re looking at you. There’s one tone with questioning witnesses and another with people they’re actually focusing on.”

Yes?” So far, Ron hadn’t taken a single bite out of his chicken sandwich and had only idly toyed with the fries.

More than likely, if you haven’t done anything, you’ll be okay.”

Let me finish. You’ll more than likely be okay. But if it gets bad, and I mean really bad, then we’ll have to call someone else in.”

Why? You’re a criminal lawyer, right?”

I am. But something like this is way out of my league. If it would happen to get as far as a courtroom, we’ll have to call in a bigger gun.”

Someone else from your firm?”

Maybe, but I’d actually feel better with a few names I can think of on the outside.”

Ron had thought, over the last twenty-four hours, his stomach couldn’t lurch any more. Now, the thought of mounting, and major, legal bills facing him down, at the same time as dissension with his wife and children, made him want to go in a corner somewhere and curl up into a ball.

And the worst part was, he had absolutely no idea how long all this hell was going to last

My Review:

The Group opens with the police on the scene of a murder. A woman has been killed but by who and why? The woman was a teaching assistant at the local college. This woman attended a group where she met Professor Ron Green and had an affair with him.

Now Ron’s life has been turned upside down. His wife is leaving him even though he ended the affair several months before. Ron is home feeding his children when he sees on the news that a woman has been murdered. Ron recognizes her as the woman Diane he had an affair with.

Because Ron had an affair with Diane and they met at the group he attended over a year ago he just knows that he is going to be blamed for her death. So Ron decides to go to the police himself and give his side of the story which of course makes him their number one suspect. The police can’t find any proof that Ron killed her so Ron sets out on his own to prove his innocence.

The Group kept me guessing as to who killed this woman right up until the end. One minute I would think that Ron was guilty and then the next I wasn’t so sure. But then I began to suspect Ron’s wife. But the more Ron investigated the more I wasn’t so sure who did it. The twists and turns kept piling up one after the other. I was racing to the end to see who did it.

But the big question is if Ron didn’t do it then who did? If Ron didn’t do it can he find out who did before the killer came after him?

Hi, thanks for taking part in the tour and for your kind comments regarding my work. I'm on the road at the moment, but will check in as I can over the next few days for any questions. M

Marcy, the unsatisfying answer is that I'm not entirely sure. I always enjoyed reading and somehow naturally segued into writing.
