For mermaids and humans, the rules are the same: be careful around strangers, be wary of magic and before you dive in, check what’s lurking under the waves.

Nineteen-year-old Ellara Merme’s whole life she’s known one purpose: to mate with men, to procreate, and to bear offspring to fight in Neptune’s underwater army. No problem… There’s just one hiccup. Her siren song doesn’t work.

No one can know.

She’s a broken mermaid with a faulty lure and she has only one week left to make the damaged song work. But all that can change with the ocean’s next deadly storm. Dragged from a shipwreck, mythology says a rescued sailor will be so grateful he’ll fall into anyone’s arms. Even a broken mermaid’s. Still, there’s a reason why merfolk and humans don’t get along. And a lot can go wrong when a girl from the ocean washes up on the shore.

Think mating is easy? Think again.

Cruel and Splendid Mermaids is a first-person dark and playful underwater fantasy. Book one in the Broken Mermaids series.

My Review:

When I read the summary for Cruel and Splendid Mermaids I knew I had to read it. When I started reading Cruel and Splendid Mermaids I didn’t know what to expect but what I found was way better than I ever thought it would be.

The descriptions and the storytelling are very good making it that much easier to imagine it all. I had no trouble at all seeing it all in my head as if I was watching a movie. Oh, by the way, Cruel and Splendid Mermaids would make a great movie.

I don’t think I have read anything quite like Cruel and Splendid Mermaids before. I love the twists on mermaid life. I love the world that was created for these merfolk.

The only thing nineteen-year-old Ellara has looked forward to her whole life is finding a man to give her a baby as that is the way of life in her world. But Ellara’s song is broken. Ellara needs her song to entice a man to sleep with her.

She only has one week left to find a man who will give her what she desires most in the world. If she can’t find a man in that length of time life as she knows it will be over. Ellara will do whatever she has to in order to find a man to give her a baby.

I highly recommend giving Cruel and Splendid Mermaids a try if you like stories about mermaids! Grab your copy of Cruel and Splendid Mermaids today!
