When Lark Cavanaugh’s life in New York City falls apart, she’s left reeling from a staggering betrayal. She escapes to Cape Cod, where a distant relative has left her an old house with a tragic past. Rumors of a haunting presence plague the abandoned home, but Lark doesn’t believe in ghosts…until she has no choice.

After completing his military duty, veterinarian Jesse Holt returns to his small hometown to take over his father’s practice. He soon finds himself drawn to the alluring redhead now living next door, but she has made her intentions clear—she’s moving back to the city as soon as possible. When frightening events threaten her safety, though, he can’t deny his protective instincts.

Unable to fight their feelings, they give in to desire…but another battle looms. Lark’s arrival has awakened a decades-old mystery, and the truth of what happened at Holloway House will only be revealed when it claims yet another life.

Interview with Kathryn Knight

How many books have you written and which is your favorite?

I have written seven novels, and picking a favorite is so difficult! My debut novel, Silver Lake, holds a special place in my heart, since it took me about 5 years from initial idea to being offered a publishing contract…it was a day I will never forget!

If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?

I always write standalones, although sometimes characters from one book make cameos in others.

Do you want each book to stand on its own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections between each book?

I do write each book to stand alone, although romance, secrets, and suspense are common threads in all my novels.

How did you come up with the title for your book?

For this book, Ghost Moon, I combined the ghost mystery piece with a spooky, suspenseful scene in the book that occurs under a full moon.

How long did it take you to write this book?

This one took me about a year and a half.

    What does the title mean?

I hope it evokes the spooky, gothic setting and plot of the story!

What did you learn when writing the book?

I learn so much while writing every book, as there are usually subjects or historical events I have to research for the characters and plot.

    What surprised you the most?

The initial spark of inspiration for this one made me think it was going to be a YA novel, but it is anything but!! There are steamy scenes in Ghost Moon.

Have you ever killed off a character your readers loved?

No, although I do kill characters!

What do you do to get inside your character’s heads?

I write in very deep third person, so I develop detailed backstories on all the characters (not all of which needs to be shared, it’s so I can know them inside and out). I “interview” them…for example, what was the best birthday present they ever received, and why? What is their zodiac sign, and does it describe them accurately? I also thoroughly research their jobs, hobbies, issues, etc. Finally, I made sure I understand each characters’ goal, motivation, and conflict.

Thank you so much for having me today!
