In the first chapter, the author draws our attention to his impetus in writing the book - the state of unbelief in God in America today. He says there is a pandemic of infectious unbelief in America and the world today! According to a 2020 survey, ninety-four percent of adult Americans say knowing the God of the Bible is not important. Instead, they have created their own idea of who they want Him to be. So where have you placed your faith and trust? Find out now if they are firmly rooted in the solid ground of the Bible and God’s true nature. Read more Who Is This God? A Handbook for Life with Him is a Christian nonfiction book that unravels the confusion to help people discover God’s nature and character. In so doing, it demonstrates how you can develop a personal relationship with Him and grow spiritually. Major themes about God and life with Him include: There is one God in three persons, the Father, the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. God created you to experience His love and know Him personally. Everyone needs to be rescued and born-again to enter His Heaven. God has a purpose and plans for you (your life is not meaningless). The Holy Spirit was sent to dwell within, guide, help, and teach the followers of Jesus. Believers must mature spiritually to live an authentic Christian life. God is supernatural, and you live in the natural and supernatural realms of this world where miracles and other supernatural interventions by God still occur. Embedded in the forty-three chapter narratives are nearly three hundred questions, six hundred and sixty scripture quotations, and seventy true stories. These stories include miracles of healing, deliverance, and protection only the God of the Bible can do. You will also see that God communicates through His Spirit with those who sincerely seek Him.

Interview with Paul Bryan

Introduction to book

A brief overview of Who Is This God? A Handbook for Life with Him will help add clarity to my responses. The back of the book provides the following information.

There is a pandemic of infectious unbelief in America and the world today!

According to a 2020 survey, ninety-four percent of adult Americans say knowing the God of the Bible is not important. Instead, they have created their own idea of who they want Him to be.

Who Is This God? A Handbook for Life with Him is a Christian non-fiction book about the God of the Bible and experiencing Him in the natural and supernatural worlds in which we live. It helps people unravel the confusion and discover God’s nature and character. In so doing, it demonstrates how a person can develop a personal relationship with Him and grow spiritually.

Major themes about God and life with Him include:

There is one God in three persons: the Father, the Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy

Spirit.

God created you to experience His love and know Him personally.

Everyone needs to be rescued and born-again to enter His Heaven.

God has a purpose and plans for you (your life is not meaningless).

The Holy Spirit was sent to dwell within, guide, help, and teach the followers of

Jesus.

Believers must mature spiritually to live an authentic Christian life.

God is supernatural, and you live in the natural and supernatural realms of this

world where miracles and other supernatural interventions by God still occur.

The book ultimately asks the question: “Where have you placed your faith and trust?” Find out if they are firmly rooted in the solid ground of the Bible and God’s true nature.

The book is structured for learning (from the book’s Introduction)

This 392-page book is for reading, Bible study, and a teaching resource for everyone who wants to know the God of the Bible and to learn to have a living, personal relationship with Him. That’s why this book includes the following:

What is your schedule like when you’re writing a book?

I typically write for several hours in the morning and the afternoon, five days a week. I schedule other activities around these to maintain a consistent writing schedule. This consistency helps keep my mind focused on what I am writing.

Did you ever consider writing under a pseudonym?

I initially thought about writing under a pseudonym. But since this book is Christian non-fiction, I felt people would consider it more authentic if written under my name.

Have you ever gotten reader’s block?

On several occasions, I just got tired of thinking about the book and stopped for several days. The book has forty-three topical chapters with many sub-topics. There is a lot of information to constantly remember and keep aligned throughout the 392 pages of the book. This requires a consistent mental effort that can become taxing without occasional relief from writing.

Does your family support your career as a writer?

My wife is an active supporter and assistant in my writing. She believes in the value of the written word to change people’s hearts and lives.

How many hours a day do you write?

When working on a new book, I typically spend four to six hours a day, five days a week. This consistency keeps the subject matter fresh in my mind and allows me time to accomplish other necessary daily activities.

If you could invite any three people for dinner, whom would you invite?

Because we are Christians, I would love to experience the presence at dinner of Jesus Christ, the Apostle Paul, and Billy Graham. All three, of course, are no longer alive. The conversation would ultimately focus on Jesus Christ, the author of the Christian faith and religion. If it’s people alive, I would like to have the following three people together at the same dinner: pastors Kyle Idleman, Nate Millican, and Dr. Robert Jeffress. The conversation between these three biblically adept teaching preachers would be dynamic!

Would you share something about yourself that your readers don’t know (yet)?

Writing books has never been the goal of my life. I spent my working career as a manager in technology and was an associate college professor for several years. I have taught adult Bible studies for many years. My writing has been predominantly in developing teaching materials. This is very different from writing a full-length book. I wrote Who Is This God? A Handbook for Life with Him under the direction and inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Because of this, I consider it His book even more than mine.

Do you try more to be original or to deliver to readers what they want?

Since I write Christian non-fiction about God, I ask the God of the Bible to provide the inspiration to write. So, I believe what I write is original and what readers want. He works in the minds and hearts of people He is drawing to Himself through the Bible and Christian non-fiction works such as our book.

How do you celebrate when you finish your book?

I spend time in prayer and conversation, thanking God for helping me write a book He has “co-authored.” As they say, I “give credit where credit is due.” Another way I celebrate its publishing is to send complimentary paperback or ebooks to influencers and friends.

If you could be mentored by a famous author, who would it be?

Dr. Robert Jeffress is one of my favorite Christian non-fiction authors. He is the senior pastor of the 14,000-member First Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas. He is also an adjunct professor at Dallas Theological Seminary. He is famous within the Christian community, having made more than 2,000 guest appearances on various radio and television programs. His writing is instructive and helpful in developing my understanding of God and the Bible.
