Book Blitz + #Giveaway: In Danger's Embrace (Cimmerian Moon #3) by A.M. Griffin @AMGriffinbooks @YABoundToursPR

In Danger's Embrace
(Cimmerian Moon #3)
by A.M. Griffin
Genre: YA Dystopian
Release date: June 7th 2016

Summary:

In many ways, my life is complete, or as complete as it can be with aliens roaming Earth, killing and enslaving humans. Jason, my love, is by my side, and my friendship with Wade is back on track. Even better, it seems the threats of annihilation from the aliens have turned out to be nothing but hot air.

Yet, despite the peace of our Arrowwood refuge, there is still a war waging outside, something I’ve tried not to think too much about. Just as I’ve ignored the fact that a sanctuary can also be a prison, or a tomb, we are forced to step out of safety and live or die, in danger’s embrace.

Excerpt:

“Do you smell that?” MJ asks me. He raises his nose and sniffs at the air again.
We’d taken the lead from Rocky and Jason, who are now bringing up the rear. We’re moving through Shelby, Ohio and, unlike all the other towns we’ve passed through, this one was quiet—eerily so. The hoots and howls have ceased, the growls and barks in the not too far distance have quieted and the sounds of animals walking through overgrown grass or dried leaves were no more.
The moment we notice the silence, Rocky warns everyone to look alive. We keep our eyes peeled, looking for anything unusual, as in the alien variety. I glance down at Winston, who is trailing faithfully by my side. That alone convinces me that there aren’t any aliens nearby, otherwise Winston would’ve tried to break free from his leash to hide.
I sniff, bringing the hot and humid air into my lungs. It smells odd. I can’t put my finger on exactly what the smell is. I sniff again, searching the recesses of my mind, trying to pinpoint the smell. I know this smell, yet what it could be is at the tip of my tongue, eluding me.
Death.
The thought fills my head and rocks through my body.
The air is thick with it.
I stumble, catching my foot on the rocks in my path. How could I not recognize the smell? It had plagued my senses for so long before we found Arrowwood. It was all we’d smelled after the aliens invaded Earth, leaving dead bodies in the middle of the street, blood spilling everywhere.
“I smell it,” I say in almost a whisper. I don’t want to say any more, fearing that Brook, who is four steps behind me, or that Abby, who is strapped to MJ’s back, might hear if I say anything else.
Even at this late hour it is so damn hot outside. Sweat drips down MJ’s face. He wipes a bead from his brow, just before it can reach his eyes. He frowns and squints, focusing to the left of us. “It’s coming from our east.”
I push the wet and sweaty strands of hair from my face and glance that way, but because of the darkness, and with only a little light from the moon, I can’t see more than twenty feet and what I can see doesn’t pique my interest. There’s a mass of what could’ve once been an apartment or office building, but I can’t tell for sure. Bricks and wood all look the same to me now.
“I’ll inform Rocky,” I say.
I break formation and trot past my mom, who asks, “Is everything okay?”
“We’re fine,” I say as I pass her to get to Rocky and Jason. My guns hit my hips and make a clunking noise as I move. My swords bounce silently in the sheaths strapped to my back.
I reach Rocky and Jason and stop them with a hand. I peer over my shoulder at the retreating group who continue to follow MJ. This isn’t the first time we’ve broken formation; the grown-ups are aware that when we do it’s to discuss something we don’t want Abby and Brook to hear. Lexi, Mia and my mom look back at us. I give them a nod, letting them know I’ll fill them in later. Reassured, they turn to keep walking.
“You noticed the odor too, huh?” Rocky asks.
“Yeah,” I say. “MJ thinks the smell is coming from somewhere to the east.”
Both Jason and Rocky glances in that direction, probably not being able to see much farther than I had.
Jason sniffs at the air. “It smells fresh.”
Rocky flicks his wrist and peers at his watch. “The sun will be coming up in another hour or so. We can begin to look for shelter, get some rest and send a small team out by mid-afternoon to check it out.”
“I’ll let MJ know,” I say.
I trot back to the front, taking my place at MJ’s side. “We’re looking for shelter now.”
“Around here?” he asks, his voice rising a bit.

I know what he really means—So close to where people have died?

Book One:

Against the Darkness
(Cimmerian Moon #1)
Genre: YA Dystopian

Summary:

This one time, at band camp…aliens invaded earth. Sounds like a bad riff on an old joke, doesn’t it? Unfortunately for me and my friends, it’s all too true. I thought a mess like this only happened in the movies but, as I watch the alien ships hovering over the major cities, I suddenly realize I’m a thousand miles away from my Mom. From home. From safety.

Darkness may have fallen over the world, but I won’t let it claim me. I’ll do anything I have to get back to Michigan. Yet nothing could prepare me for what we find on our trek north from Tallahassee. There’s hardly anything the aliens haven’t bombed. Survival, at any cost, is the name of the game for the few people who haven’t been killed or captured. As if trying to stay free and alive isn’t enough, I think I just met the love of my life. And he’s just the kind of bad boy who’ll tear down the walls I’ve built around my heart—then break it.

Book Two:

The Ashes That Remain
(Cimmerian Moon #2)
by A.M. Griffin
Genre: YA Dystopian

Summary:

We’re at war against the aliens that have invaded Earth, fighting the only way we can—by surviving. I have more than most people do, but although I know it’s stupid to hold on, I can’t let go of what might have been—can’t help dreaming of something more. No matter how I tell myself it would be easier to do what everyone else wants me to, there’s a part of me that can’t give in.

Making the best of the situation is one thing. Settling, even to make other people happy, is something else.

Then we hear the alien mother ships have disappeared. Of course we have to go and investigate. What we find lands us in a huge mess that we somehow have to clean up and, as our little enclave is rocked to the core with even more changes, I’m learning a hard lesson.

The more things change—for the better or the worse—there’s no fighting human nature, and building on the ashes that remain will take everything we have. And maybe more.
