Alone and betrayed, American professor, Bonny Bryant longs for a haven of peace. She accepts a position at a small Christian college in Fort William, Scotland, craving escape from her painful past. The passionate love which develops when she meets fellow professor and sheep farmer, Kieran MacDonell, is something she never anticipated.

Kieran harbors a deep anger toward God in the face of his own devastating grief. When Bonny’s former fiancĂ© reenters her life, Kieran’s loneliness draws him to a former student.

How will Bonny decide between her rivals? Can they set aside the past to make way for a future, or will it drive them apart?

Land of My Dreams, Christian Romance Novel, spans the distance between New Mexico’s high desert mountains and the misty Scottish Highlands with a timeless story of overwhelming grief, undying love, and compelling faith.

EXCERPT:

When Kieran left his office, he saw Bonny standing behind her car, her foot tapping and shoulders sagging. “Can I help you, Dr. Bryant?”

She startled, and he realized he had been so intent on watching her that he had failed to give warning of his approach. The eyes that met his sparkled, their brilliance drawing him like a treasure hunter to a prize emerald. She was a lovely woman.

“Dr. MacDonell, hello. I’ve changed flat tires before, but these lug nuts won’t budge.”

He checked the urge to brush a smudge of dirt from her cheek. “It’s Kieran, and I’m glad to be of help.” He forced himself to ignore the nervous pounding in his chest and the urge to run. He was alone with the woman who had filled his mind day and night from the moment she had walked into the room.

“I’m Bonny, and thanks.”

“I’ll take that spanner off your hands.”

“Spanner? Oh, you mean the lug wrench, of course.” She held it out to him and smiled.

He took a deep breath. Her smile reminded him of sun breaking through a Scottish mist. His fingers brushed hers as he took it, and he realized how small her hands were, like his mother’s finest china. Dainty and delicate.

Something about the patient way she watched caused his uncertainty to subside. Rescuing a damsel in distress wasn’t a bad way to meet. Tossing the caber was no longer possible, but he knew how to change a tire. She stood near enough for him to smell her perfume—feminine, like a rose garden.

My Top 10 Places to Visit
By Norma Gail

Only ten? It’s kind of tough to narrow down. My curiosity is insatiable and my love of travel is never-ending. My list likely includes reasons you never thought of before. But here goes!

1. Scotland – my debut novel is set there. We visited for our 30th anniversary in 2006 but now I know where my ancestors came from and I want to sit on the porch of a vacation rental and stare at Loch Garry where my story takes place.

2. The Netherlands – My husband grew up there and he is homesick. We haven’t been there since 1996, so it would be great to visit old places and some that are new to us.

3. Southwestern New Mexico – I have the unprecedented opportunity to heal wounds from a feud in the early 1900’s by meeting a descendent of the men responsible for the deaths of my great grandfather and great uncle in 1918. They now own a portion of the ranch my family lost as a result and are willing to give me a tour. What a treat!

4. Texas – A visit to various locations would allow me to see some of the places where my great great grandparents lived and learn more about their lives pre- and post-War Between the States. I love family history!

5. Alaska – We cruised the Inside Passage with my mother-in-law in 2000. This time we want to drive and see places a cruise won’t get you to.

6. Blue Ridge Parkway – Dual purpose – see the fall colors and go back to the earliest roots of the southern branches of my ancestors, towns, cemeteries, monuments. I’m fortunate to have a very patient husband.

7. England & Ireland – Can you guess? More family history! Also my love of Europe and two places I’ve never been before. Hey, a book or three could result from all these trips.

8. Idaho-Montana-southern Alberta, Canada – These always belong together in my mind. The places where we visited every other year when I was growing up, spent our honeymoon, took our children when they were kids. It’s almost a homesick feeling for me.
9. Hawaii – The Big Island –I’ve visited twice, and both times Kilauea failed to cooperate. I have a life-long desire to see an erupting volcano.

10. North Dakota – My dad grew up there and I haven’t been able to connect all the family dots. Many of the places they lived are ghost towns now. I haven’t been there since I was five years old.

Do my reasons for visiting these places seem strange to you? They seem very normal to me and my kids and husband have grown used to my quirks. A writer always has an ulterior motive.

Who are some of your favorite authors; what strikes you about their work?

Thank you all for stopping by and participating!

Peggy Hyndman, thanks for stopping by! My favorite authors are Michael Phillips and Liz Curtis Higgs. What I like the most is the depth of faith in God in the lives of their characters. I also love classic literature, Charles Dickens for his amazing character and setting descriptions, and the Bronte sisters for their well-developed characters and plot.

Mary Preston, my travel does give me ideas for stories. Many of the stories in Land of My a Dreams came from experiences my husband and I have had. I have some trips planned that are specifically research related.
