Review Tour + #Giveaway: Temptation Trials by B. Truly @GoddessFish
Temptation Trials
by B.
Truly
GENRE: Adult,
Dystopian & Post-Apocalyptic
BLURB:
One nation under his
reign.
Cardinal sins of man
caused humanity to pay the price. Cali Nasser grew up in a world succeeding
World War III. The aftermath forced the world dictatorship that she must now
live in. A new Regime arose from the ashes. They demanded obedience and
cooperation from every citizen, even in matters of the heart.
One domain ... One
accord … One nation. That is the moral code. In Cali’s eyes, it all revolves
around a twisted plot for control.
It used to sicken
Cali how people would allow the Regime to test their love through the
Temptation Trials. That is, until she met Kincade. Cali’s entire point of view
changes when she falls for him. She struggles with herself, debating if she
should challenge the government’s law of arranged marriage.
Cali’s childhood
friend, Stefani, always kept a positive perspective about their lives until she
was threatened with the same dilemma, at odds over the man she loves.
Now Cali and Stefani
face a desperate choice—submit to the Regime’s will, or fight for what they
value most—love. Although lust, mistaken for love, could lead to damnation. Do
they give up on love or sign up for the Temptation Trials, a reality TV show
where every temptation is laid before them?
The spirit is
willing, but the flesh is weak. Can love save their souls?
Excerpt:
Gunshots were now few and far
between. I didn’t see anyone else. Maybe they had taken cover also, or worse,
they were dead. Cade snuck up behind the lawman, kicking the weapon from his
hand. He tackled Cade, they fumbled to the ground. The enforcer punched Cade
repeatedly. My chest tightened. Against my instructions, I crept from behind
the tree. Cade kneed the man in his groin. He scrambled for the pistol—the
officer was quicker, aiming it at Cade.
“On your feet, now!” Cade rose
slowly, placing his hands behind his head. “Don’t you dare move, or I swear,
I’ll blast your ass.”
A big rock lay a few meters away. I
didn’t think, I only acted. I scooped up the rock, then slammed it into the
enforcer’s head. He grunted, collapsing on his side. Cade looked at me in an
expression of awe. “I knew I liked you. That was dangerous, but brave.” I hope
I hadn’t killed him. Cade leaned down, picking up his weapon. He’s not dead,”
Cade said as if reading my mind. “His chest is moving. We gotta go, though.”
He gripped my hand again, and we
took off through the weeds. As we made leeway, I saw some of the others. After
what seemed like an infinity, the vehicles appeared up ahead. Two black trucks,
two SUVs, and two vans. Escapees were diving into them. Cade led us to an SUV.
Rafael had the door open. We lunged into the backseat. One of the vans and
trucks sped off, full speed. Enforcers charged in our direction. Another man
and woman scrambled into the backseat with us, then the driver floored the gas.
My head jerked. Gunfire emerged from behind, shattering the back windshield.
The girl next to me screamed—I ducked, whimpering. Cade held me closer. More
shots followed as we picked up speed.
“Everyone stay down,” the driver
ordered, popping a wheelie around a curve. The momentum slung us together.
Rafael was sitting shotgun, his head slammed into the side window.
“Shit, Eric!” Rafael complained.
“Sorry, man. You wanna knot on your
head or your head blown off?” the driver asked. Rafael didn’t answer. After a
few more turns, Eric asked, “Is anyone hit?”
We all said no, which was good news,
although I wondered how many had lost their lives trying to escape. Two
vehicles were still in front of us. I looked through the busted rear
windshield. The air rushing in made me shiver. Three other cars were trailing
us. The driver, Eric, wore black gear, and so did the man sitting directly
behind us. They must also have been part of the secret group.
“Hey, you okay?” Cade squeezed my
palm.
“I’m shaken … relieved we made it.”
This had been enough excitement to last a life time. Every few minutes, I
whipped my head to the side or to the rear, paranoid we were going to be
pursued again.
Cade laughed softly. “Relax, we’re
in the clear.”
“Easy for you to say. The way you
fought that enforcer, you’ve had some sort of training.”
“Yeah, some. I’ve never been in a
combat situation, though.” He gave me a reassuring smile. “You didn’t listen to
me anyway. I’m glad that you weren’t hurt.”
I shrugged. “Looked like you needed
a hand.”
“Thank you for helping.”
“You’re welcome. You came back for
me, remember. So now we’re even.”
Rafael laughed. “Damn shame that a
woman had to help you, Cade.”
“Bite me.” Cade grinned—Eric,
chuckled. “We’re almost at our destination,” Cade told me, eyeing the chick and
dude in the truck with us. “I’ll fill you in and answer any questions you have
once we arrive.”
I nodded. The woman and guy who’d
escaped with us didn’t seem to clue into this being a covert rescue. Or they
didn’t care—just happy to be free. They spoke in hushed voices. Rafael
conversed with the driver quietly. I leaned against Cade’s shoulder and he
didn’t seem to mind.
My Review:
Since the aftermath of World War III the moral code has been
One domain ... One accord … One nation. The world must now follow a world dictatorship
that controls every aspect of their lives even their hearts. When you turn
twenty one your spouse is chosen for you and you must pack up your bags and
leave family and friends behind maybe never to see them again. Will unless you
are lucky and your chosen one lives on the same continent as you do if not well
then I guess it is adios amigo.
Most folks guard their hearts against such matters as have
Cali Nasser and Stefani Ponce. It’s like party until your heart is content but
keep that heart surrounded by thick walls and never give it the chance to fall
in love. But when they meet a couple of hot, gorgeous guys they both soon learn
that these two hot men have broken through the walls they have built around
their hearts. They have found out that they nor the government can actually
control the heart.
What do they do now? Do they give up on their love? Or do
they fight the government to be with the one they love? What can they do? Well
they could apply to be on this reality tv show called Temptation Trials.
Temptation Trials is where couples that are in love fight for their chance to
be with the one they love and not someone the government picks for them. Cali
has never liked this show at all but to be with the one she loves she will do
whatever it takes.
When Cali and Stefani reach the island they assume they know
what is in store for them and what they must do to fight for the one they love.
Easy peasy, right? But things don’t turn out exactly as they expected. While
they knew they would have to date a few men while there they didn’t expect the temptation
they would endure but that is probably why it is called Temptation Trials. You
think?
I will have to say that I enjoyed reading Temptation Trials
way more than I thought I would when I read the summary and after reading the
summary I knew I had to read it. The world that the author has created for
Temptation Trials is umm how do I say it? Well it is just out of this world
amazing. I loved the concept of having a reality tv show in a dystopian world. And
the characters are just as amazing.
Now this is one book I would very much love to see on the
big screen to bring all that goodness to life to see if it would be anywhere
close to what I saw in my head when reading it.
But I do have to say that the ending just blew me away. I
was like no way…you can’t do that to me. I can’t wait for the next book to see
what happens. I just can’t seem to get Temptation Trials out of my head. You
know like when you hear a song and it sticks with you for days well that is
what it has been for me since I laid it down well I guess I haven’t exactly
laid it down yet then. Hey but that is a good thing though, you know what I
mean?
If you have not read Temptation Trails then I would like to
suggest that you do. You will not regret it if you a good romance mixed with
dystopian.
