Turning
the envelope over, his hand trembling, Harry saw a purple wax seal
bearing a coat of arms; a lion, an eagle, a badger and a snake
surrounding a large letter 'H'.
Harry
Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start
dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in
green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly
confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh
birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid
bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and
he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An
incredible adventure is about to begin!
My Review:
This was my first time reading Harry Potter. I tried a few years ago to read it but stopped after only a few pages I just couldn’t seem to get into it. I had heard all the hype about it but just wasn’t sure it was for me. But then I guess it was last year I had the opportunity to see all the movies online through one of the TV channels, I think it may have been either USA or SyFy, I can’t remember which one at the moment. I saw right away that I did like Harry Potter and wanted to read the books as any book lover knows the book is almost always better than the movie, right?
Even though I had heard all the hype and how much everybody seemed to love it I guess I wasn’t paying much attention to exactly what was being said as I hadn’t realized that Harry Potter was in the same genre that I read everyday and that it had everything I love in a good book. It had witches, wizards, a school of magic that was hidden from the world of muggles.
I am so glad that I finally decided to read the book as I did see and learn more about Harry and his life from the book than I did from the movie. When watching the movie I didn’t comprehend how badly Harry was treated by his Aunt, Uncle, and, Cousin, the Dursleys. Nor did I realize how much he missed out on growing up in their home. Or how many secrets they kept from him about who he was and the truth about his parents.
I loved each and every character even Professor Snape and You-Know-Who Voldemort they all had their role to play which of course they played well. I really loved Harry, Ron, and Hermione. Harry and Ron were always getting in trouble but along would come Hermione to help them out. Oh, my very favorite character in the movie and the book was big ole cuddly Hagrid. He had such a big ole heart and was always there to help them out if they needed him.
Let’s talk about the Dursley’s a little bit here or maybe it is more like Harry. Even though I am very miffed at the Dursleys about how they treated Harry I am just as proud of Harry for how he just seemed to let it roll off him and never seemed to dwell on it. I loved how he took to magic when he knew nothing about magic until the day Hagrid showed up on his doorstep. I mean he didn’t really question if it was real or not. I loved how well he accepted things. I guess his new life at the magic school had to be better than what he had before with the Dursley’s.
Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone has so much to offer it has witches, wizards, a magic school not to mention all the suspense that kept the pages turning. Harry, Ron, and Hermione were always running around the school at night getting into all sorts of trouble even when they didn’t get caught. But I wonder was all their running up and down the dark halls done in secret? I mean it was full of very powerful wizards and witches, why else would they be teaching at a magical school.
I can’t wait to start on the next Harry Potter book Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. After reading Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone I have come to love Harry Potter even more. After reading this first book I don’t think I will ever forget a moment of it. Now on to the next book.
Oh, do I recommend the world of Harry Potter? Well, yes I do of course. So one-click your copy of Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone today to begin this magical journey that is all the hype! Oh, oh what an amazing story!
