BLURB:
Marianne
Harmon is sick and tired of being just the kid sister of the famous queen of
Kwadra Island. Although she daydreams about being a warrior, when rebels bomb
the royal ball she’s shunted to one of the many tunnels that honeycomb Kwadra,
where she awaits a captain of the valiant Royal Guardians.

When Marianne mistakes him for her bodyguard, Quinn can’t decide whether to save the feisty maiden, fall in love with her—or kidnap her. Excerpt:
"Fifty,
fifty-five, sixty," the white-haired tourist said. "There you go,
chief, paid in full."
Chief?
Quinn Lebatarde's lips tightened at the insult, but almost immediately, he
grinned. The tourist's Rolex watch shouted money to burn, as did his expensive
digital SLR camera. Quinn pocketed the money but held onto the cheap, plaster
replica of an ancient Kwadran woodcarving the man and his wife were buying.
Time
for some fun. Hordes of tourists crowded the streets, celebrating the birth of
the heir to Kwadra's throne. Business was great. Only three more 'carvings,' a
mask, and some miniature totem poles remained on his rickety street-side table.
And now the prospect of conning this man made Quinn's day even brighter.
"All
original," he said in the thick accent and broken English dumb tourists
expected. If you spoke too well, they didn't believe you hailed from an
alternate Earth. "Historic. Maybe I sell too cheap."
Instead
of giving them their mythological monster from Kwadra's distant past, he
clutched it to his chest. Not hard, though. The trashy fakes broke under the
least pressure.
"Too
cheap, ahha. Thirty dollah more."
"We
had a deal," the tourist's wife said.
With
a loving fingertip, Quinn stroked the carving's ugly, wide-open lips.
"Fifty dollah more."
"Now
wait one minute," said the man. "Isn't this against the law or
something?"
"You
no on America now. Merkin law useless." Merkin was Kwadrans' slang nickname
for Americans, with sexual connotations most of them didn't know—despite
English being their native language, not his. "Where you from you no know
that?"
My
Review:
Marianne
is the Queen’s sister not only is she her sister she is her kid sister.
Everywhere she goes it is like oh you’re the queen’s kid sister; oh look it’s
the queen’s kid sister; make way for the queen’s kid sister. Well Marianne is
so tired of being the queen’s kid sister she wants to be recognized for her own
self and her own accomplishments.
While
Marianne is attending a royal ball it is bombed by rebels so Marianne is sent
underground into the tunnels by her ex-boyfriend the king’s brother to meet
with a captain of the Royal Guardians. He tells Marianne to stay with the
captain and obey him. But of course Marianne is not too good on obeying
anybody. She is too head strong for that. She is her own person and will not tolerate
it.
Quinn
is a guy on the run from the Royal Guardians which pretty much sums of his life
as he is a scam artist. After the bombing Quinn runs into the tunnels himself
to hide and to stay out of the lime light for a while. Quinn finds a Royal
Guardian that has been killed during the bombing. He likes his uniform so
decides to take it. After dunning the uniform he runs into Marianne who then
mistakes him for the Royal Guardian that she was supposed to meet.
Now
when old Quinn finds out who Marianne is he don’t know where to help her, fall
in love with her or kidnap her especially after finding out that she was told
to obey the captain that he is impersonating. What is a man to do?
But
it is not long before Quinn and Marianne has company. Eleven year old Lady
Delfina joins them. They find Elfy alone in the tunnels she has been sent there
by her maid and told to stay put but after Elfy sees Marianne whom she calls
Aunt Marianne because Elfy is a cousin to the king which happens to be Marianne’s
brother in-law.
Elfy
is a strong and smart little kid who is just like most kids her age she always
wants to do just the opposite of what she is told to do and talks up a storm as
they say but she is a good kid. The banter between Elfy and Quinn is just hilarious;
well and Marianne too.
Alien Contacts for Kid Sisters is not what I expected
when reading the summary it was way more and then some. It had you guessing
from the beginning and kept you hanging on right up until the end. It was full
of mystery, love and funny as well from beginning to end you never knew what
direction you were going in next.
If
you have not read it then let me suggest that you give it a try I don’t think
you will be disappointed in the least. I can’t wait now to give Alien Contact
for Idiots book #1 a try. These aliens are unlike any aliens I have had the privilege
of meeting before.
