Interview with Alec John Belle
What inspired you to write Fiery Passion?
When
I first conceived the idea for the series, I knew it was going to be at least
three books. Although the third book was initially different, long before I
even wrote the first book, when I sat down and outlined things, the direction
the story goes is amazing. The first book (Forbidden Darkness) was sort of
lower young adult, the second book (Shadow People) upped the stakes, and Fiery
Passion takes it too a whole new level. It’s darker, more twisted, and really
leads into what the rest of the series will be like.
Can you tell us a little bit about the next
books in The Forbidden Darkness Chronicles or what you have planned for the
future?
The
Forbidden Darkness Chronicles is sort of split into story arcs, even though all
the characters are still present. Story Arc 1 was books 1-3, Heather’s saga of
finding out she’s a Monster Hunter and discovering the world she lives in,
along with the help of her friends. Although I have each of the books slightly
outlined, going into Story Arc 2 I decided to do even bigger outlines and flesh
out the story. The next three books are Frostbite’s Fury (book four), Angel’s
Rage (book five), and Demon Cries (book six). Once those are done, I can
continue into the last two books.
Can you tell us a little bit about the
characters in Fiery Passion?
There
are so any wonderful characters it’s hard to even narrow it down so the list
isn’t too long! Heather Hawkins is the main character, who is the main narrator
in the first book. She’s sassy, sarcastic, and is pretty driven. She likes to
take matters into her own hands and sometimes that gets her into a lot of
trouble! Then we have Hayden Williams, who actually gets a point of view in the
second book with Heather. He’s a little less sure of himself than Heather is
and a lot of his issues come from his sexuality, which his family has yet to
come to terms with. He’s sometimes insecure and the Darkness (the main entity
of the series causing all these problems) is drawn to him. He has all these
other things that influence him to potentially go to the dark side, but
overall, Hayden’s stood his ground. Finally, my favorite character is Kadin.
Similar to Heather, he’s sassy and sarcastic, but almost never takes anything
seriously. He’s the Vessel of Darkness in the first book and you start to see
his journey between good and evil right off the bat. He’s my favorite character
in the whole series, especially the scenes he has with Heather. Most readers
seem to love him too!
You know I think we all have a favorite
author. Who is your favorite author and why?
Well,
I have one for each of the two genres I read. Ellen Hopkins is my favorite
contemporary young adult author. I’ve read every single one of her books and
she’s been such an inspiration for my other contemporary novels. I also love
Kim Harrison, who wrote an adult paranormal series, The Hollows. It’s one of my
favorite series ever, if not the favorite.
If you could time-travel would you travel to
the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you like to
visit this particular time period?
For
the longest time, I would have said the past, because everyone has mistakes
they’ve made. Despite that, I also wouldn’t go to the future either (I know,
I’m so boring! LOL). Part of it has to do with that I’m still in recovery from
depression and Bipolar, where I spend a lot of time focusing on the present. We
can’t change the past, and we can yearn for the future, but we must live one
day at a time. That’s the best advice I could offer anyone these days.
Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a
dog or a cat? Or any pets?
I
do! His name is Henry and he’s my best friend in the whole world! He’s some
type of chihuahua mix, but we’re not exactly sure with what. I got him from the
Humane Society nine months ago and could not be happier with my decision.
Thanks for taking time out of your busy
schedule to visit with us today.
About the Author
Alec John Belle resides in Carson City, NV, where he is currently

Pretty Little Liars. He writes about tough topics that many are too afraid to
talk about like suicide, homosexuality, self harm, bullying, mental illness,
among other teenage issues, and he often blends these ideas with the
paranormal. Despite writing such topics, he is a very cheerful person who
enjoys looking for the best in life, while trying to help others do the same.
