Dallas Anderson is stuck in a time loop that repeats Labor Day 2001 to September 11, 2001. He thinks he must prevent the terrorist attacks to break the loop. But each loop challenges that theory, igniting a fiery romance between him and his best friend's sister and exposing the dark truth behind Déjà vu.

Interview with James Fant

What inspired you to write THE DARKEST LOOP?
Oddly enough, I went through a period where I would see these little dark, washer-looking loops on the ground, in the most random places. I’m pretty big on signs so I thought, surely, I’m seeing these loops for some reason. I thought on it. Prayed about it. And it came to me to write about one man’s experiences on the week leading up to the September 11th attack. Only, this man relives that week over and over and over. He feels in his heart that the reason he’s stuck in the loop is so he can prevent the attacks from happening. However, each consecutive loop challenges that theory and brings him closer to the dark truth behind Déjà vu.
Can you tell us a little bit about what you have planned for the future?
Well, my next character is a real character. He’s an ex-football offensive tackle turned bodyguard who loves to eat, hates early mornings, and protects some of the craziest people on the planet. He’s been egging me—pretty adamantly, I might add—to get his story out there. So I’m releasing a short story about him soon to introduce him to the world. That’s all I can say for now…maybe just one more thing: his initials are A.N.D.

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in THE DARKEST LOOP?

Dallas Anderson is a new type of character for me. He doesn’t have much bravado (he’s no wimp, by any means). But he’s sensitive. Sensitive about his surroundings as well as the people that surround him. He’s especially sensitive about Thena because he believes that she’s somehow dangerous. And how can she help him save the day if she’s dangerous?

Thena McKnight is also a new type for me. She has these hard edges that turn Dallas off initially. But once she removes her shoes and socks, and Dallas sees her pretty feet (Dallas has a foot fetish) all bets are off.

You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your favorite author and why?
My favorite author is Eric Jerome Dickey. He’s a master story teller. His way with words is profound. Before I was a writer, I was an avid reader. His were the novels I mostly read. For example, Genevieve, my favorite novel of all time! I recently checked a review I wrote in 2012 on Goodreads for that novel and said to myself, “This review sucks!” So now, I’m re-reading the novel and I’m going to give it the review it so richly deserves. Sorry, Mr. Dickey. I’ll get it right this time; I promise!
If you could time-travel would you travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you like to visit this particular time period?
Definitely the future. I would go beyond the span I’d potentially live to see how the world has progressed. Are Jetson type cars that fly through the air a reality yet? Have we cured cancer or AIDS? Have people as a whole finally learned how to treat each other with dignity and respect? Have we inhabited the moon, where there is no gravity? Is this where we learned dignity and respect? Did we finally realize that gravity was the cause of all our problems? (You know how gravity does…always trying to keep us down).
Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
Because of my children’s allergies, no pets at this time.

Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to visit with us today.
