April, a single mom trying to balance work and private life
takes a job in Nevada. As she makes her way down a long and deserted back road,
a stranger begins to follow her. He wants her, he craves her and there is no
escaping him. With no one to help her or to hear her scream she begins to
wonder if she'll make it back to her daughter or will she meet her end at the
hands of the Stranger?
~The Stranger is a short story~
My Review:
A young single mother is driving on a long road with no
signs of life for miles and miles. April is heading home after traveling for
her job. She is looking forward to seeing her baby girl’s beautiful face. When
April started on her trip home she stopped by a gas station before heading out
on this long dreary road all alone.
While at the store she felt as if she was being watched. She
looked over her left shoulder then her right but saw nothing but just as she
was taking another look she saw someone in a dark hoodie just standing there
and staring at her. Once outside she jumped in her car and took off. Out on the
road a truck starts following, chasing April.
April is so scared that you could almost smell the fear
coming off her in waves. Whenever she slowed down the truck would slow down when
she would speed up so would the truck driver. He followed her so close that he
was just mer inches from her bumper. April had no idea if she would make it
home or if she would make it another day to see the face of her baby girl.
Kathy tells a story in such a way that you feel as if you
know the characters as if you are inside their heads knowing what they are
thinking and feeling. With each word she writes it is as if you can see
whatever it is she is writing as if it is pouring out of the pages into a movie
in your head.
Her stories seem so real but I will have to say that when I
was reading The Stranger I kept wondering if what was happening to April was
just a figment of her imagination. You know like when a person has been out in
the desert so long that they start to see mirages. Well what if something
similar was happening to April. Like with her traveling on a long hot deserted road
all alone for so long with no one else around missing her baby girl so bad and
wanting so bad to get home to her baby that her mind starts to play tricks on
her and she is not just seeing things but hearing things as well.
Well she has done it again ladies and gentlemen written a brilliantly
and horrifying book. With each and every book of Kathy’s I read they just seem
to get better and better with each turn of the page. The action never stops and
her stories will stay with you long after you have turned the last page of each
one.
I highly recommend The Stranger to everyone who loves a good
horror story and a great author.
