Interview with Sunayna Prasad
For those interested
in exploring the subject or theme of your book, where should they start?
They should do research and have a passion for fantasy. They
should also think about clichés and what would best be avoided and what could
be made more original.
How did you become
involved with the subject or theme of your book?
I’ve always been passionate about fantasy. However, “The
Unruly Curse” has a paranormal twist on it, thanks to inspiration from the
movie, “ParaNorman”. The film, “Frozen” also gave me a lot of inspiration for
this story.
What were your goals
and intentions in this book, and how well do you feel you achieved
them?
It was extremely difficult to execute this story
successfully. From getting enough backstory for it to stand on its own to the
characterization. But the writing and dialogue were criticized most in previous
versions. Thankfully, I received a ton of help with that. Now my reviews are
better.
Anything you would
like to say to your readers and fans?
I am thankful that most enjoy it better.
What did you enjoy
most about writing this book?
Probably the world-building and the characterizations.
Despite the struggles, I enjoyed discovering who my characters really were.
Can you tell us a
little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
I plan to have a total of 7 books in this series, plus a
spin-off. My goal is to have all 7 novels in the main series published by my 30th
birthday. As for my next book, my main character will have to accept a
life-long change. I will stop there on that.
How long have you
been writing?
Since the age of 6. As for serious writing, since my late
teens. It took me 7 years to develop my writing voice. And it’ll continue to
grow.
Can you tell us a
little bit about the characters in “The Unruly Curse”?
Well, first there’s my main character, Alyssa, who is cursed
with uncontrollable magic powers that she has to remove. She is naïve,
determined, and has gone through a lot. Other characters include her godfather
and guardian, Alex, who is sweet, but requires responsibility from her, her
friends, Lily, Sydney, and Krystal, and the antagonist, Errol. Errol is a
revived and depressed skeleton who has been misunderstood and wants to be
human.
If you could spend
the day with one of the characters from “The Unruly Curse”, who would it be?
Please tell us why you chose this particular character, where you would go and
what you would do.
Probably Alyssa’s friend, Lily, since she is bubble, fun,
and encouraging. We would go out for ice cream and have a great time talking to
each other.
