Virtual Book Tour + #Giveaway: Every Minute by C.J. Burright @CJBurright @RABTBookTours
Contemporary Romance
Date Published: 12/31/19
Publisher: Totally Bound Publishing
Introverted teacher versus unstoppable violinist. She wants to be alone. He wants her heart. Let the games begin…
After the unexpected death of her musician brother, third-grade teacher Adara buries her grief, avoids all music and vows to exist without attachments. Social solitude works perfectly…until she’s forced to share her classroom with the new music mentor, a man who rattles her carefully constructed cage and sparks emotions she prefers to keep chained.
Always up for a challenge, violinist Garret is a master of patience and persistence, and the minute he meets Adara, he knows what he wants. Her sharp humor and haunted eyes inspire him in a way he’s never felt before. He makes it his mission to chip through her shields and breathe her back to life—no matter how hard she resists.
Even as Adara struggles to keep Garret at a distance with each clash of wills, each smile he coaxes, each kiss he steals, her resistance crumbles. But when the past catches up with them both, they will discover that some promises are meant to be broken…and others are worth risking everything for.
Interview with C.J. Burright
Why
did you choose to write in your particular field or genre?
I’ve
always loved how romance affects any story, so even when I was writing at a
young age and thought I was writing pure epic fantasy, it was the romantic
connection between the characters that was as interesting to me as the
storyline itself…which is ironic since I’m not a romantic person by nature. But
if there’s not at least a side romance going on in a story, then I feel like
something’s missing.
If
you write in more than one genre, how do you balance them?
Paranormal and fantasy romance is and always will be
my first love, but for whatever reason, I was struck with Adara and Garret’s
story from Every Minute and even thought I’d never written in the contemporary
romance line before, it flowed surprisingly easy…dare I say supernaturally
easy? 😊 Even without magic or
creatures that go bump in the night, I fell madly in love with Garret, which
led to Ian and Gia’s story, and a novella and a third book. I’ve tried to write
more than one book at a time, and that just doesn’t work for me. I have to
focus. So now that I’m done with contemporary romance for a spell, I’m back to
my paranormal writing world.
What
did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Ooh,
I loved writing Garret. He’s a mix of alpha/beta, both sexy and
vulnerable, open and adorable. Adara tells him at one point that he’s “sunshine
in a sippy cup”, which is accurate. I loved watching him coax Adara back to
life.
What
book that you have read has most influenced your life?
I’d
have to say the Bible. Even for someone who might question the existence of
God, there’s a lot of wisdom in those pages.
Tell
us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?
Like
a lot of other writers, I’m an introvert. Whenever possible, I avoid social
gatherings like the plague and the thought of giving a speech makes my hands
sweat. I have a collection of cat socks (mostly gifted to me), wear a lot of
black (although I’ve expanded my closet colors), watch too many reality ghost
shows and have been known to not keep careful track of how many times my wine
glass has been filled…which leads to me becoming a temporary extrovert.
Can
you tell us something about your book that is not in the summary?
Garret
and Adara’s first “this-is-not-a-date” excursion is in a planetarium, which
Garret finagled from a fellow former band geek to use after hours.
About the Author
C.J Burright is a native Oregonian and refuses to leave. A member of Romance Writers of America and the Fantasy, Futuristic & Paranormal special interest chapter, while she has worked for years in a law office, she chooses to avoid writing legal thrillers (for now) and instead invades the world of paranormal romance, fantasy, and contemporary romance. C.J. also has her 4th Dan Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and believes a story isn’t complete without at least one fight scene. Her meager spare time is spent working out, refueling with mochas, gardening, gorging on Assassin’s Creed, and rooting on the Seattle Mariners…always with music. She shares life with her husband, daughter, and a devoted cat herd.
