Review: A Touch of Darkness by Scarlett St. Clair @ScarlettStClai1 @XpressoTours

A Touch of Darkness
Scarlett St. Clair
(Hades & Persephone #1)
Publication date: Spring 2019
Genres: Adult, Mythology, Retelling, Romance

Persephone is the Goddess of Spring by title only. The truth is, since she was a little girl, flowers have shriveled at her touch. After moving to New Athens, she hopes to lead an unassuming life disguised as a mortal journalist.

Hades, God of the Dead, has built a gambling empire in the mortal world and his favorite bets are rumored to be impossible.

After a chance encounter with Hades, Persephone finds herself in a contract with the God of the Dead and the terms are impossible: Persephone must create life in the Underworld or lose her freedom forever.

The bet does more than expose Persephone’s failure as a Goddess, however. As she struggles to sow the seeds of her freedom, love for the God of the Dead grows—and it’s forbidden.

My Review:

There is a night club called the Nevernight owned by Hades the God of the Dead that is near impossible to get in without a three month waiting period but Persephone's friend Lexa has obtained tickets for them to go. Persephone doesn't want to but Lexa talks her into it. Persephone likes to stay to herself she isn't one much for socializing.

After arriving at Nevernight Persephone sees people going upstairs and wonder what is up there and what all the secrecy is about. No one is allowed upstairs without the password. Hades doesn't make an appearance at the club very often but rumor has it that he is there on this particular night.

After seeing a very handsome man standing on the upstairs balcony overlooking the club below Persephone wonders over to the stairs looking around probably wondering about what is upstairs and what goes on up there. Upstairs Persephone runs into Hades which is probably not a mistake.

Hades is interested in Persephone and starts asking her questions but she won't answer his questions unless he wins the card game they are playing, one question per win. The more games they play the deeper Persephone becomes to being mesmerized by Hades and before she knows it she has entered into a contract with Hades herself. Hades has commissioned Persephone to create life in the underworld or lose her freedom forever.

Persephone may be the Goddess of Spring but whenever she touches a plant it dies so how can she create life. Will Persephone create life or will she lose her freedom? Maybe she can make another deal with the God of the Dead.

A Touch of Darkness is filled with suspense and mystery from the first page and will keep you glued to your seat flipping the pages wanting to know what is going to happen next. A Touch of Darkness tells Persephone's story of her love for the God of the Dead.

If you like reading about Greek Gods and Goddess then you are going to love A Touch of Darkness.
