Lexa Kozlov must pay her family’s massive debt to the mob… all while raising even more money to save her little sister. The result? Lexa’s trapped in a never-ending (and incredibly illegal) stakeout for the Bratva. She barely has time for sleep, let alone find love.
Enter Caelin Vass, the handsome Scotsman who runs Empire Investments. Caelin offers Lexa a new job with dollars galore, as well as a hot bod (that would be his own) to contemplate every workday. Even so, Lexa isn’t sure she should take the gig. Freaky things keep happening whenever Lexa and Caelin are together. Simply put, the energy between them is magical, sensual, and way overwhelming. Lexa faces a big question: is she leaving her old prison just to enter a worse one… or is Caelin Vass all he seems and more?
***12,000 word novella, previously published on Kindle Vella as Blood Slave***

Interview with Christina Bauer
How many books have you written and
which is your favorite?
>I
fall in love with every book I write. So, at this point, my fave is
my latest release, Violins
and Vampires!
If you’re planning a sequel, can you
share a tiny bit about your plans for it?
>The
next book in the series is called Veils and Vampires. In it,
Lexa decides to use her snooping skills to find out more about king
Caelin. Things get crazy from there.
Do you want each book to stand on its
own, or are you trying to build a body of work with connections
between each book?
>Most of
the time, I only write books that can both stand on their own and
are part of a larger world. This series is different. Violins
and Vampires was originally written for
serial apps. I figured that if it worked for Charles Dickens, why
not give it a try?
Sadly, I found out that the format
wasn’t a great fit. I like intense worldbuilding and if someone is
reading a chapter each week, the setting needs to stay simple. So, I
decided to pull the story from serial apps and expand it for print.
That said, there’s still a lot of ‘serial’ in the story…
mostly because it ends on a cliff hanger. Consider yourself warned!
How did you come up with the title
for your book?
>In the
original opening scene, the main characters grab each other’s
attention because the appreciate the same violin music from a street
musician. The love story grows out from there.
How long did it take you to write this
book?
>Since it was
originally a serial and then rewritten for print, I worked on this
on and off for about two years.
What does the title mean?
>The
violin part refers to what pulls the main characters together—they
have a similar way of appreciating both the world and music. The
vampire bit is just to be clear for search engines!
What did you learn when writing the
book?
>It isn’t easy
trying new formats!
What surprised you the most?
>There’s
a big monster in the third act who showed up early in the story.
Fun!
Have you ever killed off a character
your readers loved?
>Not
yet.
What do you do to get inside your
character’s heads?
>I
build up inspiration boards, character sheets, and family histories.
At some part, the characters start telling me what they want to do.
That’s when I know they’re alive :)
