WHO BURIED SARAH
by Eden Monroe
GENRE: Historical Fiction
BLURB:
Sarah, the only child of Rev. and Mrs. Cranston Estey, was betrothed to Connor McLagen of the affluent McLagen family. The McLagens were socially revered, although there were rumours of nefarious underpinnings to their substantial wealth, and the God-fearing Esteys were not in favour of the marriage.
Three days before the June 1927 wedding, Sarah disappeared. Her note said she’d changed her mind and decided to leave town.
A week later she was found, buried in a rose garden, the gruesome and sensational discovery knocking New Brunswick prohibition wars out of the headlines.
There were many with secrets to keep…
Excerpt:
Thomas Chaffee poured himself a cup of coffee then immediately pushed it away, bereft. He’d gone to Reverend Estey last night at what was likely the worst time in his life, and Cranston had helped him. The reverend was not only a mentor but had proven to be a very good friend as well.
He dropped his head into his hands. He’d so been looking forward to his furlough, a rest from his demanding work in The Belgian Congo. He loved what he did, certainly, but he was exhausted. So much was asked of him and he had given generously of himself until it didn’t seem as though there was much more to give. And now he had no alternative but to leave town quickly because he knew the terrible consequences if he stayed and faced the music. He was a much different man than he’d been just two days ago. Now he loathed himself.
Reverend Estey was making arrangements for him to return to the African continent immediately where he’d hopefully be safely out of reach. And what other alternative did he have but to remain there indefinitely? But no matter where he was he knew he had to live with himself for the rest of his life. A tidal wave of angst swept over him as he fell to his knees sobbing.
“Father,” he implored in tearful prayer, “please, I beg you. Forgive me for what I have done.”
My Review:
Sarah Estey and Connor McLagen were engaged to get married. Connor became upset with Sarah after she revealed a secret to him. Afterwards, Connor wasn’t sure if he could trust Sarah. Sarah goes for a walk. On her walk, she runs into her ex-boyfriend, Connor’s brother. Sarah is seen with Connor’s brother. This upsets Connor even more so he takes off to visit his ex-girlfriend whom he broke off his engagement with to be with Sarah.
Sarah’s father didn’t approve of her marriage to Connor. Her father tries to forbid Sarah from marrying Connor but without any luck as Sarah is in love with Connor. Besides she is a grown woman and will do as she please after all it is her life.
As a matter of fact, Sarah had a few men with their eyes on her. Each one would love to have Sarah for their very own. But alas Sarah is in love with Connor. The thing is can she convince him of that fact after what she revealed to him? Can Connor overcome what he is feeling? Does he really love Sarah? Or did he only think he did? Is he still in love with his ex? Is he truly in love with anyone?
Sarah disappears and leaves a note saying she no longer wants to get married. Later her body is found in a rose garden. Who killed Sarah? Who buried Sarah is the rose garden? Why did they bury her in a rose garden? Better yet why did they kill Sarah?
Well, all the answers can be found by reading Who Buried Sarah. But I give you fair warning that Who Buried Sarah will keep you on your toes trying to figure out what happened to Sarah? The many twists and secrets will keep you hanging on to the end as you will definitely want to know once you start reading.
Once what really happened to Sarah is revealed it will shock you to the core as it is so surprising. I was like how could someone do that to Sarah especially the person who did. But yet at the same time, I kind of felt bad for the person who buried Sarah.
