My
Review of Winter Halo:
Children
are still missing and Tig with the help of Jonas, Nuri and her little ghost
friends are all very determined to find the missing children. In City of light
Tig saved Jonas and his niece Penny from the vampires. This is how Tig met
Jonas and learned of the missing children in Central City. Jonas’ niece Penny
was one of the missing children until Jonas rescued her. They did manage to
save some of the children but learned that the children had been spilt up and
took to different locations.
Now
in Winter Halo Tig, Jonas and Nuri are looking for the missing children and
looking for a way into to Winter Halo a pharmaceutical company where the guards
are being attacked.
Tig
gets lucky when she runs into a guy that just happens to work there so Tig uses
her special abilities on him which just happens to be one the reasons she was
created and that is to seduce the enemy and gain information. Tig is a
super-soldier who can shift and is also part vampire herself with special
abilities.
Although
Tig is working with Jonas and Nuri in trying to find the missing children they
still don’t quiet trust one another. It has been one hundred years since the
war and the déchet have progressed farther than the shifters with the hate
between the two and the déchet were created to destroy the shifters.
The
shifters all want to destroy Tig but they need her to help find the children
but I think Jonas is beginning to soften up a little bit as he is developing these
feelings for Tig that he can’t explain or doesn’t want to acknowledge at the
moment but as time goes on I don’t think he will have a choice or maybe he
does.
I
have truly loved reading Winter Halo with the new twist on the vampires and the
world of Winter Halo is astounding and I just can’t seem to get enough of it
and I want more of it. I can’t wait to read more of Tig and Jonas to see where
their relationship goes. I want to know more about the missing children and
what exactly they are being taken for and by whom. Where will Tig, Jonas, Cat
and Bear take us next? What journeys will they lead us on next?
If
you love reading dystopian with a twist of paranormal then Winter Halo is just
the book for you. I definitely recommend this one to anyone who loves a good
paranormal book. Grab your copy today!
City of Light
(Outcast #1)
by Keri Arthur
Published: January 5, 2016
Publisher: Signet Mass Market
Genre: Paranormal, Fantasy, Dystopian, Science Fiction
Blurb:
The first in an all-new futuristic fantasy series from Keri
Arthur—the New York Times bestselling
author of the Souls of Fire novels.
When the bombs that stopped the species war tore
holes in the veil between this world and the next, they allowed entry to the
Others—demons, wraiths, and death spirits who turned the shadows into their
hunting grounds. Now, a hundred years later, humans and shifters alike live in
artificially lit cities designed to keep the darkness at bay....
As a déchet—a breed of humanoid super-soldiers
almost eradicated by the war—Tiger has spent her life in hiding. But when she
risks her life to save a little girl on the outskirts of Central City, she
discovers that the child is one of many abducted in broad daylight by a
wraith-like being—an impossibility with dangerous implications for everyone on
earth.
Because if the light is no longer enough to
protect them, nowhere is safe...
My
Review of City of Light:
Many,
many years ago bombs were dropped on the world to stop the war between the species.
The bombs tore holes between the worlds which left openings for demons, wraiths
and death spirits to enter. Now a hundred years later the best thing to do is
stay out of the shadows and the dark. Unless you want to be torn limb by limb
by the vampires, demons, wraiths and other creatures of the night.
Tiger
“Tig” a déchet, a super soldier lives in a bunker with two ghost déchet
children as well as ghost déchet soldiers that did not survive the war. Tig is
very close with her two little ghost friends Cat and Bear. They are very happy
to do whatever Tig asks them to do. They are always happy just to be helping
and to have a task to do.
Tig
feels very bad about not being able to save Cat and Bear during the war and
makes a promise to herself that she will not let another child die if she can
prevent it. So when children start disappearing and in broad daylight Tig can’t
just sit back and let it continue without doing something to stop it. So when
she is approached by a shapeshifter to help in finding the missing children Tig
agrees to help.
In
Tig’s world you don’t want to be caught in the dark or the shadows as they are
vampires that live in the dark and they will tear you apart and eat you alive.
But Tig has a few tricks up her sleeve that she can use. She will use a little
magic so she can become one with the dark and hopefully stay hidden from the
vampires.
I
loved how the author brought vampires into a dystopian world; a very nice twist
on the dystopian worlds. I truly loved being drawn into Tig’s, Cat’s and Bear’s
world and following them down all the dark roads and fighting with the
vampires. I loved the vampires and the world the author created in City of
Light. Of course I loved all the characters especially Tig, Cat and Bear. Oh
and Jonas isn’t too bad either.
I
can’t wait to read the next book Winter Halo to find out where Tig, Cat, Bear
and Jonas take us to next and what kinds of trouble they might end up in.
City
of Light would be a great book for anyone who loves vampires, demons, ghost, fantasy
and dystopian novels. So pick your copy today!
An Interview with Keri Arthur
What inspired you to write WINTER HALO?
I actually can’t remember the name
of the book, but it was one of Elaine Mitchell’s Brumby novels (though for anyone
who knows this fabulous Aussie author, it wasn’t one of her Silver Brumby
series). I didn’t like how she ended the book, so I rewrote it in my own words.
When or at what age did you know you wanted to be a writer?
I knew the minute I finished
rewriting Elaine Mitchell’s novel that writing was what I wanted to do -- I
think I was eleven or twelve at the time. I’ve been writing ever since, although
I was close to 40 before my first book was published.
What is the earliest age you remember reading your first
book?
I can remember reading comic books
from a very young age (The Phantom!) but I can’t remember when I picked up my
first book. I read all the usual suspects as a youngster though--The Famous
Five, The Chronicles of Narnia, The Silver Brumby series (a must for horse mad
girls!) etc
What genre of books do you enjoy reading?
I used to read a lot of fantasy
& urban fantasy novels, but now that I write both those genres, I’m tending
to read outside of it. I’ve always been a huge mystery fan (Dick Francis is one
of my all time favorite authors), but I also read a bit of horror (Early
Stephen King and anything that James Herbert ever wrote). But my go-to genre
for a fun, relaxing break from writing is Regency Romance. Love it J
What is your favorite book?
Who can name just one? Lol. If
you’re going to pin me down, then I’ll say Bonecrack by Dick Francis. Or maybe
Nobody True or Survivor by James Herbert. And then, of course, there’s Lord of
the Rings...
You know I think we all have a favorite author. Who is your
favorite author and why?
I think it’s pretty obvious from my
answers that Dick Francis and James Herbert are favs. But I’ll also throw in
Julia Quinn, Eloisa James, & Anne Gracie, who all write fabulously fun
regency romances.
If you could travel back in time here on earth to any place
or time. Where would you go and why?
I’d love to go back to regency
England, just to see what it was really like. But only if I could do so as one
of the upper class and only if I could bring all the modern conveniences with
me. Otherwise, I’ll stay right in this century, thank you very much J
When writing a book do you find that writing comes easy for
you or is it a difficult task?
To be honest, it depends on the book
and what else is going on in my life. The fantasy novel I recently finished
came out of nowhere and just flowed onto the page. But then there are books
like the City of Light, which stalled for a year and a half before the story
decided to ‘speak’ again.
Do you have any little fuzzy friends? Like a dog or a cat?
Or any pets?
I have two dogs, and both are
geriatrics. My black lab is 14 years old, and my Sheltie is 10. Both are
usually snoring on their beds behind by chair when I’m writing.
What is your "to die for", favorite food/foods to
eat?
I have a ‘to-die for” drink, and
that’s green tea. I can’t survive without it. Food wise, I love me some dark
chocolate, cake, or cheesecake... but I’m wheat intolerant, so have to be very
careful.
Do you have any advice for anyone that would like to be an
author?
Make a habit of writing, finish what you start, and don’t
be in a hurry to get published. It’s important to learn your craft and hone
your voice if you want a long-term career in writing.
