GENRE: Romantic Suspense
BLURB:
When local journalist, Tori Peterson, fails to prevent a child
abduction outside her niece’s school, her horror and guilt sparks a vow to do
whatever it takes to get little Abby Brady home to her parents.
While Tori battles the vile memories of her own kidnapping as a
child, she accepts the help of widowed father, Mark Bolton. As he and Tori join
forces with the local police, their attraction and intimacy grows…along with
their fears for Abby.
Links are uncovered between Abby’s disappearance and Tori’s
kidnapping, and Tori is forced to accept the monster who held her captive is
back. But this time, Tori is all grown up, and there is no way she will let him
hurt another little girl.
Excerpt:
Sensing
her discomfort, he stopped and leaned against the bureau. God, did he frighten
her? Surely not, or she wouldn’t be here. Or did she sense his attraction
toward her and would do all she could to deflect it? He didn’t doubt for one
minute his eyes gave away his appreciation whenever he looked at her.
He
lifted the can to his lips. “So, what have you been thinking about?”
She
tapped a peach-painted nail on the bureau. “This.”
“The
bureau?”
“Principal
White’s bureau.”
He
frowned. “How did you know it was hers?”
“She
mentioned you were working on a bureau for her when I was in the school office.
I assumed this is it.”
“It
is.”
“Good,
because that makes it all the easier for me to give you your first assignment.”
“You
want me to talk to her.”
She
smiled, took a few tentative steps closer to him. “Got it in one, Watson.”
He
smiled, pleased to see genuine mischief shining in her eyes. “I’m Watson?”
“Yep.”
“So
that makes you Holmes. Not sure I like being anyone’s sidekick.”
Another
couple of steps closer until no more than a couple of feet separated them. She
met his eyes and his heart kicked. Her V-neck shirt was just the right side of
professional. Yet, the way it revealed her collarbones and hugged her full
breasts made him want to reach out and pull her into his arms, kiss her, taste
her…
“You’re
staring, Watson.”
He
blinked and snapped his gaze from her breasts, rare heat hitting his face.
“Sorry. You look nice.”
“Thanks.”
She raised her eyebrows and nodded toward his chest. “So do you.”
He
smiled. “Why don’t we go inside? It’s way too hot out here.”
Interview
with Rachel Brimble
What inspired you to write If I Want
You?
I
get a lot of my ideas from the news and magazines and when I heard a story
about a missing child being found, I got caught up in the emotions of the poor
parents and the little girl herself. I knew writing a story about a missing
child was a bit of a risk in the romantic suspense genre as it can be upsetting
so I had to figure out a way of telling the story begging to be written without
putting off potential readers.
I
really hope I’ve achieved this because I love this book and hope my readers
will too – the horror of the crime is very much balanced by the romance and, of
course, the inevitable happy ever after.
Can you tell us a little bit about the
next books in series or what you have planned for the future?
At
the moment, If I Want You is a stand-alone romantic suspense, but this could
easily change if another story strikes me. I like the setting I created so
wouldn’t be averse to setting another book in the English town of Barlington J
My
next release is the final instalment of my popular Templeton Cove series
(Harlequin). A Stranger In The Cove is a mainstream romance and revolves around
the town’s matriarch, Marian Cohen. I am super excited for its release as
Marian is my most favorite character in a cast that has grown to over
thirty-five individual characters. Fingers crossed, I’ve written a satisfying
ending to a series that has been an absolute joy to write.
A
Stranger In The Cove releases Jan 1st 2018 and is available for pre-order
right now – here’s the link: Amazon
Can you tell us a little bit about the
characters in If I Want You?
Tori Peterson (heroine) is an intelligent, feisty heroine with a past she’d
rather forget, but when a little girl is abducted in front of Tori and she’s
powerless to save her, Tori’s past comes back to haunt her. A race against time
chase begins as Tori and single father, Mark Bolton, join forces to save little
Abby Brady and identify her abductor.
Mark
wasn’t looking for trouble, or love, when collecting his daughter from school,
but he’s immediately struck by Tori and Abby’s plight. All too soon, the
intensity of his and Tori’s search leads to sparks flying that these two are
completely unable to resist…
You know I think we all have a favorite
author. Who is your favorite author and why?
My
absolute favorite author is Nora Roberts for so many reasons – she’s a lovely
person in real-life which I discovered when I met her in Ireland a few years
ago, she writes fantastic books at a truly unbelievable rate and never fails to
deliver what her devoted fans have come to expect.
As
I find plotting a challenge with every book, I am in awe of her skills and
ability to produce one great romantic suspense after another…usually with a
mainstream romance AND a new J D Robb (her pseudonym) release in between.
If you could time-travel would you
travel to the future or the past? Where would you like to go and why would you
like to visit this particular time period?
Definitely the past! I alsowrite historical romance and would love to see the
eras I write about in true detail. I have four Victorian novels published with
eKensington so I’d travel to the late 1800s first and soak up as much as
possible. I love writing about the less moneyed classes of people, so I’d want
to see how hard it was and what fortitude the people had to overcome their
problems and prosper.
I’d
then travel forward to the 1900s and the Edwardian period – I just adore the
clothes and changes for women that happened at the time, so I’d talk to as many
women as possible. I have just started my second book set at this time and book
one is under consideration. Watch this space!
Do you have any little fuzzy friends?
Like a dog or a cat? Or any pets?
I have a fabulous chocolate Labrador called Tyler – I love him to bits
and he’s my constant companion as I work. He sits by my feet for hours but the
minute I say ‘walk’ he’s up and running around like a maniac. I swear he has a
dual personality, lol!
Thanks for taking time out of your busy
schedule to visit with us today.
