Virtual Book Tour + #Giveaway: Take Back the Memory by Augustine Sam @austin_sam001 @RABTBookTours
Women's Fiction w/ Romantic Suspense Elements
Date Published: December 7, 2017
Publisher: AuthorSuite Books
Paige Lyman, an accomplished psychiatrist, is on the verge of madness but she doesn't know it yet. The madness begins when she gets it into her head to write her memoirs. As her brilliant mind assembles bits and pieces of her life for the book, ugly skeletons, long forgotten in the closet, begin to rear their heads.
It had all begun with a simple act of love. And love, for her, was a blond-haired Irish boy named Bill, so when Bill abandoned her for priesthood the world around her collapsed. Seized by a different passion—vengeance—she seeks her proverbial pound of flesh in the beds of various priests...
But that is before she meets Stern W, a medical researcher, who sweeps into her life like a hurricane and marries her, and they live happily ever after until he dies in a helicopter crash and she discovers the startling truth about who he really was.
Take Back the Memory is the saga of her compelling backward journey through her own life on a psychotherapist's couch.
Interview with Augustine Sam
Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in Take Back the Memory?
The main character is Paige Lyman, a redheaded lady who grew up with her expatriate parents in Kenya. Strong-willed, self-assured in her choices, and helplessly in love with her childhood crush, she later became a psychiatrist. The event that transformed her from psychiatrist to patient is the core of the story. There is Bill—Paige’s childhood crush—the Irish boy who abandoned her for priesthood and set in motion a chain of events that soon teetered out of everyone’s control. Another interesting character is Stern W. who swept into Paige’s life like a hurricane and later married her. Among the outstanding characters is Dr. Wilson, the clinical psychologist on whose couch some of the darkest secrets of the book are revealed.
Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
My next books will be a trilogy of literary thriller with elements of romantic suspense. I can’t reveal much at this stage but I am halfway through the first book of the trilogy. Currently, though, I’m working to create awareness for my newly released short novel entitled Black Gold, a multicultural roller coaster literary ride on the fringes of romance and thriller.
How long would you say it takes you to write a book?
It depends largely on the book, the amount of research needed, and the completeness of the idea. I generally don’t have a set timeframe.
What is your favorite childhood book?
As strange as it might sound, I do not have a favorite childhood book.
If you could spend the day with one of the characters from Take Back the Memory, who would it be? Please tell us why you choose this particular character, where you would go and what you would do.
It would undoubtedly be the protagonist of Take Back the Memory, Paige Lyman. I would love to take her for a walk, particularly in Kenya where she grew up and make her relive some of the sensations of her childhood. Then I’d pick her brain about some of her questionable choices and what drove her to make them. Maybe that way, I’d learn a thing or two about ‘that thing’ she called the indecipherable mystery of love.
What was the hardest scene in Take Back the Memory to write?
The hardest scene was the description of Paige’s trauma after her husband’s untimely death and her subsequent discovery of who he really was. I had to find a way to depict this twist in the tale in a manner that’d make sense to the reader. It was a defining moment for me, and to that extent, the hardest scene to write.
What made you want to become a writer?
The short answer—and a definitive one—was/is my burning desire to tell stories.
