Virtual Book Tour + #Giveaway: A Perfect Mistake by Laura Brown @AuthorLBrown @GoddessFish

A Perfect Mistake
by Laura Brown
GENRE: Contemporary Romance

BLURB:

Falling for the forbidden has never felt so right…

When social worker Nica Anders indulges in one night of sexual passion with delicious Deaf man Cam Thompson, the last thing she expects is to see him the next day while visiting her dying client. He’s Cassie’s grandson and caregiver, the one treat she shouldn’t have tasted. Now her job is on the line, demanding she stay away.

But their attraction is building like a raging inferno and Nica can’t help but get burned.

Cam Thompson’s life is a mess. He’s losing his grandmother, the one person who’s supported him his whole life, and her dying wish is for him to settle down with a good woman—specifically her social worker Nica Anders. Despite Nica trying to hold tight to her ethics, he’s falling for her hard and fast.

Yet Cam's grandmother isn’t the only matchmaker in his family, and someone's determined to keep him and Nica apart.

Steamy, touching, heart-warming. A much-needed #OwnVoices romance to go perfectly with that plate of chocolate brownies and glass of wine!

Excerpt:

I needed to get laid. At least, that’s what my amber cocktail made me think—correction, my third amber cocktail. If the first two hadn’t murdered my inhibition, the third managed to land the final blow.

Minus my usual filter, my eyes wandered around the room, hunting for a man to prey on. The bar was packed for a Tuesday night. Waves of chatter encompassed me, creating a low hum in my ears. But I didn’t care about the noise, not when a particular delicious specimen held me captivated, with hair the hue of rich caramel sticking out in different directions. He sat at the bar, hunched over his drink. A brunette with boobs practically spilling out of her top tried to speak to him, but he shook his head and tapped in front of his ear twice, before turning back to his drink.

She may have slinked back to her friend, but I bit my lip, taming down the grin threatening to split my face. Perfect. My fingers itched to communicate, or smooth down his messy hair.

Perhaps both.

Before I could make up my mind, his broad shoulders stiffened and he turned. My alcohol-induced bravado vanished, and I tried to wrench my gaze away. Except, I didn’t move. Not an inch. Total disconnect from cranial activity to body movement. Damn fruity drinks. A pair of brown eyes locked with mine. Crap. I knew better than to be rude and stare.

Quick, sign something, I willed my hands, anything.

Interview with Laura Brown

As a writer, what would you choose as your mascot/avatar/spirit animal?
I’d choose a cat. I love my cats, they get to hang out at home all day, take long naps, curl up in warm places. I’d love to be them with my laptop!

How many hours a day do you put into your writing?
I tend to be attached my laptop most of the day! Because I’m busy with my day job and mom life I’m often interrupted, so it’s hard to say exactly how many hours I put in. I’d venture a good two-three hours, more if I’m chasing a deadline.

Do you read your book reviews? If yes, do they affect what you write in the future?
I must confess that I do! I find good reviews are the best pick me up some days. I also find it helpful to see what readers are responding to, or not responding to. So in that sense they do shape what I write since I pay attention to trends across multiple reviews, but I also take reviews with a grain of salt. Because reviews are for readers, not for me, and I keep that in mind.

Do you leave hidden messages in your books that only a few people will find?
If I do it’s unintentional! I’m sure I have things that relate to my personal life that the right person will catch while reading, but it’s not intended. At least, not yet, I might need to do this!

Can you tell us a little bit about the characters in A Perfect Mistake?
Nica Anders is a social worker who works in elder services. Her clients are frail, often near end of life, and instead of her usual baked good relaxer, she goes to a bar where she meets a Deaf man, Cam Thompson. Cam’s drinking after moving his beloved grandmother to Hospice, the only other member of his family who is Deaf. He’s usually a work-a-holic but sees Nica and they share a hot night together. Only it turns out she’s his grandmother’s social worker and both their lives are about to get complicated!

Can you tell us a little bit about your next books or what you have planned for the future?
Next year I’ll be publishing two romantic comedies, also featuring Deaf heroes. The first involves a fake date for Passover and is a lot fun! I also hope to keep working on the series for A Perfect Mistake.

Do you allow yourself a certain number of hours to write or do you write as long as the words come?
I write as long as the words come. Life interrupts often, as I’ve mentioned above. If the words are flowing I take advantage of it. If the words aren’t flowing? Then it’s time for a break and recharge!

Do you have a certain number of words or pages you write per day?
Not exactly. I tend to write about a thousand a day and try and finish a chapter or scene at a time. Most days I’m a one chapter writer, but sometimes that chapter is stalled, or the next chapter demands to be written!

What inspires you to write?
A little of everything! I can find inspiration in the strangest things. I’m a hopeless romantic, so I love putting those stories on the page. I also love putting stories of people with disabilities finding love. Because as a teen I felt like no one would want to date a hard of hearing girl. I met my husband in high school, though, so he showed me I was wrong and now I want my stories to show others the same truth.

Would you rather

Fiction

Read series or stand-alone?

Dean Koontz (but to be honest I borrowed a book of his from my mother more years ago then I care to admit and haven’t read it yet, ssshhh!)

Read the book or watch the movie?
Movie first, then read the book.

Read an ebook or paperback?
Can I say both? I love aspects of each. If I have to choose, paperback.

Be trapped alone for one month in a library with no computer or a room with a computer and Wi-Fi only?
Library, I could use a vacation!

Do a cross-country book store tour or blog tour online?
Online, but mostly because of how demanding my life is right now. One day I’d love to travel and meet readers!

Thank you Bea!

Bernie, I'd say my writing time is split between home and the day job, perks of a job with a lot of downtime!
