Blurb:
Humanity has colonized on the tidally locked planet
Pendomus.
Residing between extreme heat and frigid cold is the complex
known as the Helix. Within lies a highly sophisticated society functioning
solely on humans fulfilling their life’s purpose as determined by their natural
aptitudes and daily brain scans.
Seventeen-year-old Runa Cophem has found her calling
studying the ancient trees nearby and anxiously awaits a professional placement
which will allow her to continue her work.
Runa’s life takes an unforeseen turn when she’s brutally
attacked and left for dead in those woods. Rescued by a stranger with blue
hair, she’s immersed into a surprising way humanity has survived without the
Helix. Fueled by a yearning to understand and an attraction she didn’t even
know was possible, Runa tries to make a new life for herself. Yet, there’s much
she doesn’t know about herself, about the planet, and the forces controlling
her from afar.
What she needs are some answers.
My Review:
Runa has really enjoyed spending time outdoors studying the
trees and nature and is now anxiously waiting for her professional placement so
she can begin to study her life’s dream of plants and trees.
Not long after Runa goes out to study she is attacked by a
brutal monster and is barely alive when she is rescued by a stranger. When Runa
finally awakens she finds herself surrounded by even more strangers. Who are
these strangers? Are they going to hurt her? What are they going to do to her?
After spending time with the three strangers and getting to
know them Runa starts to learn a new way of life and that what she has been
taught to believe by the people who live in the Helix just might not be the
truth. Runa’s life is about to change completely as secrets are revealed and
she learns more and more about the people who raised her and the monster that
attacked her.
As with Trajectory the world building in Pendomus is just as
superb. Carissa Andrews has a very vivid imagination and paints a very great
picture of a new world. She makes you feel as if you are right there with the
characters doing and seeing whatever they are seeing and doing. I loved
Pendomus from the first page to the last. Once I picked it I couldn’t put it
down until I had read the last page. I can’t wait to read more of Runa,
Traeton, Fenton and Kani’s journeys in the next book Polarities.
I would highly recommend Pendomus to all fans of dystopian
or science fiction books.
