No matter which way we turn today, trends like pollution, climate change, and the 4th Industrial Revolution are impacting the ecosystems that you and I live in.

The thrust of the book is to bring awareness to major global trends that we are facing and to give suggestions on how to adapt and prepare for them.

Topics covered include mental health, physical health, employment and lifestyle, social impact, and emergency readiness.

There is an emphasis on mentoring our youth who are especially impacted by both the anxiety that these trends raise and their direct impacts.

Interview with Ken Kroes

What was the hardest scene from your book to write?
While several sections of the book relate to ecological anxiety, the “Mental Health Impact” section was by far the hardest. I took several runs at it and was never quite happy until I broke it apart into age categories and wrote an entire separate section related to our interactions with the online world.

Why did you choose to write in your particular field or genre?
The changes to our environment and society are a passion of mine. With extensive travel and reading I feel it is critical for people to be aware of how the big trends (like climate change, pollution, fake news, and job stealing robots) are and will impact us. The important thing to realize is that this time IS different. We are approaching peak population on this planet and the reason for this is that we are pushing the environment and society to their limits.

If you write in more than one genre, how do you balance them?
I also love to write fiction and have a four book post-apocalyptic series, Percipience. The research I do in real world problems is used both in my fiction and non-fiction work, but I tend to only write in only one genre at a time (alternating between fiction and non-fiction).

What did you enjoy most about writing this book?
Without a doubt it was the research. I wanted to make sure that the information provided was not only accurate but was representative of the big picture and not taken out of context. On this genre, I have read nearly 1000 research papers, opinion pieces, and books over the last 10 years and this book has specific references to over 200 of them.

What book that you have read has most influenced your life?
The Bible and the message it provides on “The Golden Rule” ( do unto others as you would have them do unto you).

Tell us a little about yourself? Perhaps something not many people know?
I grew up on a farm and know how to milk cows by hand! I also spent my teenage years learning how to play the accordion.

Can you tell us something about your book that is not in the summary?
There is a great section in the book about practical ways for being prepared for emergencies such as flooding and power outages.
