Publication date: December 13th 2019
Genres: Adult, Historical, Young Adult

A must-read gripping adventure based on the true story of Nancy Wake, Gestapo’s most wanted. Soon to be a major feature film.

February 1933: Nancy Wake is a gregarious twenty-year-old looking for adventure. Having fled her unhappy family home in Sydney, she becomes a journalist and is thrilled when she is posted to Paris. The city is glamorous, brimming with journalists, artists, and a growing number of refugees.

Later, in the French Riviera, she uncovers more than news following a chance encounter with wealthy industrialist, Henri Fiocca. Their relationship blossoms as Hitler makes waves across Europe. While on an assignment in Vienna in 1938, she witnesses Nazis whipping Jews on the street and she vows to fight for justice if ever the opportunity arises.

When Henri is called to the Front to fight, Nancy, determined to help the war effort, joins the Red Cross as an ambulance driver. Every day she witnesses atrocities. When Paris falls, Nancy flees the German oppressors and returns to Marseille.

A chance encounter with a British officer draws Nancy into the heart of the Garrow escape network, despite Henri’s reservations. Soon she finds herself caught in a deadly game of espionage.

As the iron fist of the enemy tightens, neighbours denounce neighbours. When the enemy closes in, Nancy and Henri face an impossible choice. Has she done more harm than good?

Based on a true story, Madame Fiocca weaves an extraordinary tale of survival and redemption in wartime.

I look forward to hearing from you and thank you for your time.

My Review:

You know the first time I read the summary for Madame Fiocca I decided against reading it as I don’t read historical fiction as much now as I did when I was younger. But Madame Fiocca would not leave me alone. I thought about it for days before actually deciding to read it.

Madam Fiocca intrigued me from the first time I read the summary. I kept thinking that it was about World War Two with Germany and France. Another reason that Madame Fiocca would not leave me alone was that we have the same name and that intrigued me as well. It kept pulling me and pulling me until I could no longer ignore it and gave in to reading it and boy, am I ever glad I did.

Madame Fiocca tells the story of a young girl, Nancy Wake who leaves home at a very young age after her father leaves them for a new family. When Nancy is sixteen-years-old she decides to travel across the world visiting New York and then ending up in Paris finding a job as a journalist. Nancy decides to make Paris her home. While there she meets a real nice and dashing man Henri in Paris, falls head over heels in love and eventually marries him.

It is not long after that Henri receives his papers to join the war leaving Nancy at home alone. Nancy soon becomes bored with her life and decides that she wants to help out in the war herself by becoming an ambulance driver. She had trained in nursing before becoming a journalist but it just wasn’t her cup of tea.

After witnessing the horrors of the war Nancy becomes involved in helping people escape to safety. Later she teams up with a resistance group. She figured that she could cross enemy lines easier than a man as no one would ever suspect a woman of being a spy.

Madame Fiocca is a very heartwarming story that touched my heart from the very first page or maybe even before then and will stay with me for many years to come. Madame Fiocca is one of those books that you can’t lay down not even for a minute literally or emotionally.
Madame Fiocca is a beautifully written story about a woman’s life during the World War Two before and after. Madame Fiocca is the first book that I have read by Suzy Henderson but trust me I do plan or checking out more of her work. I think I may have found a new favorite author.

I highly recommend Madame Fiocca to everyone who likes a good heartwarming story that is based on one woman’s life during World War Two. One click your copy today!
